Galveston, Texas Wildflowers

Galveston, Texas has such an array of natural beauty that often it is sometimes hard to notice the beautiful wildflowers.  They grow along the beach and throughout the island.  The beach itself provides such natural beauty. You have to remind yourself to stop and notice the other gifts nature has given us.  You will be glad you took the time to remember all of natures wonders.

The photo above is of a flower called the Indian Blanket.  It blooms from May to September.  In addition to its beauty it provides our island with an important benefit.  It helps to prevent beachfront erosion.

Next we want to draw your attention to the Evening Primrose, aka Ozark Sundrops.  This flower blooms from May to June but the individual flowers are only around for a few days.

Our final photo features a lovely purple mystery.  We would love input on the identity of this flower.

Christina and Kevin, I believe the lower flower is a wild Morning Glory vine. I don't remember the exact name but there is a Morning Glory that blooms all through the day...I will double check this. It's beautiful. Later in the rain~Deb

Christina - You did such a nice presentation with showing flowers that grow natural along the beach. I have seen everyone of these but never thought much about how beautiful they were until now. The beach display and flowers are beautiful.

Thanks for sharing...Ceil Winters

Good job!  They are beautiful and these endure lots of wind and salt air making them hardy species.  Thanks for sharing! :)

Thanks Debra.

It is easy to just pass the wildflowers by Carl and Ceil but I think it is b/c the beach is just so awesome in itself.  After traveling the US I am always struck by the beauty of the beach yet I am a beach person.

Thanks Ricki- what was interesting to me is that some of these flowers help the erosion. Obviously that is why they were put there.  Funny how nature is always this huge balance.

Christina and Kevin! I still love these pics! Did you ever confirm what the vine is called? I have about a 50/50 chance of being right. BBBBBbbbbbbuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuzzzzzzzzzzzzz

What was that obnoxious sound? Oh, that was my "I'm wrong" buzzer. Just ignore it.
