Greenbrier County WV Under State of Emergency

By
Real Estate Agent WV0026375

Greenbrier County has declared a state of emergency, requesting that the West Virginia National Guard help with flooding operations.

Thursday June 23, 2016, it rained ALL DAY! It was just unreal how hard it rained and the wind was so strong. We were under a Flash Flood Warning... the storms kept coming one after another.   The creeks were rising and by evening small towns and roads were closed. People were stranded on their rooftop and in trees while houses floated down the roads.

Noah Seidenberg -  So far there have been two deaths and five houses burned from lightning. The Greenbrier Resort is now closed because of the flood waters.  Clean up has started and will go on for a while.

I heard the rain last night and think we got a couple of inches. I had no idea it reached into WV. You all must have gotten much more than that. Stay safe.

Rebecca, I was glad to learn that you are OK. I'm waiting to hear from my brother up in Weirton. I have never experienced floods of that magnitude, and find them terrifying.

Thanks to all of you for your concerns and prayers. Keep praying as this was horrific. So far, 23 fatalities and some people still missing. The debris is just unimaginable, homes destroyed, lives lost.. just unreal how fast the floods came in many of the towns here.  Please keep praying for WV.

So sad - and so terrifying! I don't watch TV, but I've been reading appeals from Mercy Chefs for more funding. They estimated that they'd be feeding 1,000 people per day for an undetermined number of days.

Please stay safe.
