Cursive writing is on the way out.

WE are hearing more and more that the schools are not teaching cursive writing anymore.

I guess I don't know why, but I also don't know why we should teach it.

I know that the only time I use cursive is when I sign my name on checks or documents.

The one thing about using  a cursive signature is that it is harder to copy.

Hi William Feela

My version of cursive is so bad even I can't read it.  My youngest can't always read it, so it appears to be on it's way out.

William, I mix them up all the time, half cursive, half printed. My cursive is easy to read, if you can read cursive, LOL. I actually like it and hope it never goes away!

When my grandson was in school he told me they have stopped teaching that art. About the only thing we writes now is his signature, which is barely legible.

I have mixed feelings about this.  Don't really know why we should keep it, but there is a lot of history for it.

Good morning William. You may be right and it is sad I think. I know I like to write this way.

Well, I don't write much in general, but I believe I could still write in cursive if the occasion arose!

I print and even that is not all that easy to read.  Cursive is just a bunch of ink.

William, I think cursive should be taught as it is a skill which takes practice and schools these days are getting too far awy from basic reading, writing and math.. My signature on documents that will go public is a scribble as I do this on purpose to stop people from copying me very easily. Hand written thank you notes go a long way with most folks these days.

I'm hoping it will remain; but suspect with the advent of our technical world, it will slowly fade away!  I foresee a Rosetta stone in the future to help coming generations to decipher it.

William

Cursive writing is formal . . . like letters and note cards . . . . I use cursive writing for hand written drafts and notes

Printing is informal . . . .  It's the foundation and is the first step in learning writing skills.

Very soon cursive writing will not be able to read by  the younger generation . . . . so they will no longer be able to read the founding documents of America.

Good luck and success.

And for some of us, our cursive writing is already a secret code.

Sometimes even I cannot read it.

Love the "graphic," Bill and so true. Our grandchildren are of that generation who were not taught good cursive skills.

I don't think my daughter learned to write cursive like I did, and her teachers certainly didn't require that she use it. I guess it's all OK, though, and just another sign of the times.

You touched the chord here with so many comments. I figured that as long as we have our secret code, it is fine :)

I would like to learn this

I think that cursive writing is not very much in demand nowadays. So I wouldn't waste time learning this. But I'd like to improve my writing skills and start working on them. And it can be useful in preparing assignments for college. Moreover, in general, these tasks are not easy ones. I recently had to deal with capacity simulation reflective report, and this website helped me with that. Thanks to the example, I somehow sorted out this challenging task.
