2016 Paonia Cherry Days Information

This year marks the 70th year for this festival, and it just gets bigger and better each year. This festival was started to celebrate the cherry harvest in the Paonia area of Delta County. It's one of the longest running festivals in Colorado. The fun starts on Friday, July 1st and lasts the entire 4th of July holiday weekend.

2016 Paonia Cherry Days InformationCherry Days always takes place on the 4th of July weekend. It was started by the local Lions Club in 1946.

Friday Paonia kicks off the weekend with Downtown Days. Throughout the weekend there will be a variety of events happening including a cherry pit spitting contest, baking contest, live music, a 5K run, a rodeo and more. Here's a full schedule of events

Paonia (named after the Latin name for the peony flower) has deep agricultural roots. The orchards began sometime in the 1880s and now the area is known for it's fruit and vineyards. There are also many area wineries.

The town is in the eastern part of Delta County along the North Fork of the Gunnison River. Delta County is divided up into regions, and Paonia is in that area of the county called The North Fork.

I've lived on Colorado's Western Slope for over 26 years. I love this area and all it has to offer, and I enjoy sharing what I know about my home. As a REALTOR®, I also love to share my expertise in this area as well. If you need real estate information for Montrose County, or Delta County, Colorado...please give me a call.

Thanks for telling us about Cherry Days. How far can you spit a cherry pit?

That's very cool, Debbie. What a neat thing to do over the holiday. I'm impressed this has been ongoing for 70 years! Hope you get to attend!

Are you going to go back and forth between the events? Now that would be a fun way to spend the weekend.

Hi, Sharon Lee ...I'm not sure if I'll make it this year. There's so much happening around here. We haven't decided for sure what we will be doing.

My cherries are now at their prime for ripeness, Kathleen Daniels . I'm not much of a pie maker, though.

Hi, Dana Tapia & Lisa Pigott ...this is a great year for cherries. For the last several years we have gotten frosted out. Last year one of my trees only had six cherries. I know I counted them.

HI, Roy Kelley ...I think I can do about eight feet pit spitting. I know I checked it out the other day.
