Have you ever had a new roof installed and felt like you were in a house being attacked by a descent of woodpeckers on steroids? It is a noisy experience.
I made the mistake yesterday of not having plans to be away during the tear off and sheeting. Today was different. I packed up and went golfing!
I've been contemplating a new roof for my home for quite some time. My 28 year old house had the original shake roof on it and I was constantly worried about fire danger. Of course, one never wants to replace a roof until they have to because it isn't an inexpensive project. Well, this was the year. This is the week.
I am so grateful for the awesome builder who built this house. His name was Roger Dorner. Sadly, he passed away last week. Roger was 83. He built 1,000's of homes in the Wenatchee valley. You'd be hard pressed to find a builder past or present who built a better quality home. His legacy lives on.
Ironically, the first home I bought was Dorner built. I purchased it as a 21st birthday present to myself. I didn't know Roger and June at that time but they became very dear friends many years later after meeting on the golf course.
In a strange twist of fate, it appears this will be my last home (unless I win the lottery and buy a lakefront mansion somewhere). So, I started in a Dorner built home and will probably finish in a Dorner built home. I feel safe.
Rest in peace Roger....
Carol
