Construction & Demolition waste management FEE Concord, CA

The Building Department of Concord, CA requires a refundable C&D waste management deposit of $2,400. on a project we are doing there which requires 50% of construction or demolition materials have to be kept out of the landfill.

Isn't that interesting. They have found yet another way to get a tax. When will it end? I guess it is a good idea in someone's eyes.

Let's see, if I understand this... you are renovating a home that is in very bad condition, the cabinets are in very poor condition, the rain has come through the roof of a few years and ruined the hardwood flooring and carpeting. The carpeting had been urinated on for years by the family pets, the house reeks of bad oders. There are three layers of bad roofing on the roof, and we are supposed to recycle... all of it or pay an additional $2,400 penalty due to the past occupants inability to  maintain their home properly leaving all this work to have to happen at the same time.

This appears to be a state law  http://www.cityofconcord.org/pdf/permits/building/BuildingCDWasteManagement.pdf

The way I read this is that it is a non-refundable fee not a refundable fee as described by our client. It is what it is but now I see one reason I've been seeing our new construction programs getting momentum.

I guess that is part of the cost of doing business ... someone needs to pay for it. There will get their money one way or another

Kathleen, I though the dump fees were designed to take care of that, just never realized they forced us  to recycle, and in many cases there isn't going to be much reuse in the kinds of stuff I see at some of these houses. So who gets that money? The garbage company or the cities? Interesting.
