There's a contest going on at Active Rain right now.
You can earn an extra 1,000 bonus points for writing a blog about a Lesson you wished you had learned earlier in your career. This contest was brought to us by the wonderful Debbie Reynolds. You can find the original blog post here in case you want to jump in and play along. But you'd better hurry because this contest ends tonight!
My entry for this contest is going to be a little different.
I want to tell you about a lesson I learned early in my career that was one of the best things that has happened to me in Real Estate. And that is this. I found Active Rain. Now before you quit reading because that sounds all cheese ball, build yourself up garbage like, let me explain.
When I started Real Estate in 2007, the party was on. All you had to do was to get out of bed and you were going to make money. It was a crazy stupid time. I came into the industry after losing my job and not wanting to move because I had kids in high school. I remember sitting at my desk after getting my license and thinking, "Okay cool. Now what? I don't know what to do." I started searching the Internet for how to sell Real Estate. And it was then that I found this little website called Active Rain.
I was blown away by Active Rain.
Here there were others who were asking the same questions I was asking. I found friends. And I found my voice in Real Estate. I learned how to write with clarity so that people not only read what I wrote, but that they understood what I was trying to say (most times).
At Active Rain I have been able to see what is happening in other parts of the country. When I travel it is fun to meet up with other Rainers in other cities. I got to meet this guy named Bob Stewart who has been huge in helping me drive my Real Estate career by learning new things and adapting to massive change in our industry.
These days I don't blog as much as I used to, but I still hang around Active Rain in the shadows. I watch new comers to Real Estate discover this amazing place as they put on their blogging hat and start making new friends with the wonderful people who hang out here. And I have a kiddo of my own who is in this crazy world of ours and he is now a Rainer. And I love that.
So the lesson I learned early in my career was that Active Rain is an important place. It gives you a voice. And it gives you friends. You can learn from others here. Learn how to sell Real Estate and very quickly be visible on the Internet...all because of Active Rain.
So thank you Active Rain.
Thank you Bob Stewart. And thank you to the many friends I have made here in the Rain! If you are new here, welcome to one of the most important places you can hang out as you build your Real Estate career.
As we like to say around here, "I'll see you in the Rain!"
