Don't forget to keep your pets safe during the July 4th holiday weekend. Did you know more pets get lost on July 4th than any other day of the year? That's because dogs get very frightened during fireworks, run away and then can't seem to find their way home. So keep it a "Fido-friendly" holiday and just in case Fido does run away, make sure your dogs all have easy to spot identification on them.

Here's a great infographic from Petfinder.com with eight great (and easy) tips on how to keep your pets safe during the July 4th celebrations this coming weekend. I know your pets will appreciate your taking a little bit of extra time to make sure they are safe and secure and away from as much noise as possible. And naturally you'll be happy not to lose any loved pets.

Great post Nina, one of my dogs who's no longer with me was terrified of fireworks, I always made sure to sit with him in the closet and comfort him. This is a great post, hope it's seen by many pet owners.

Hi Nina  - Great advice. One of our four - the little ferocious one - is terrified of fireworks and thunder, so it's going to be a bad night for him. We'll be at home with him, which at least will keep him from panicking.

Beth Atalay ~ thanks, Beth.  Our dogs were always frightened by the noise. And even out big bruiser of a cat who seems scared of nothing disappears under the bed when he hears fireworks.

Dick Greenberg ~ hi Dick... around here people often set off fireworks every evening of the holiday weekend... so it's really terrifying for our pets.

Great info - 4th of July is a dog's worst nightmare so anything to comfort them is worth doing

Playing soft music is a great idea to help drown out the loud outside noises. I'm glad you shared this information. Some people don't even think of how their dog will react to the loud noises.

Lucky will be staying safely at home this weekend.

This is a very useful infographic to share with pet owners - I'll pass it along to some clients! No dogs here but our cats get really freaked. But since they're indoor felines they just hide til it quiets down.

John Meussner ~ "a dog's worst nightmare" is a good way to put it, John. (And a cat's, too, by the way.)

Debbie Laity ~ hi Debbie... our animals couldn't be coaxed outside the front door when they heard any fireworks. I haven't seen a picture of Lucky in a long time, by the way!

Last year, the kid next door was shooting off fireworks when Willie was in the back yard.  As soon as I realized what was happening, I brought him inside and he seemed untraumatized.  But so many dogs are terrified of the noise.

Patricia Kennedy ~ hi Pat... your Willie is truly a unique dog! I've yet to meet a dog or cat who doesn't freak at the sound.
