Having been a homeowner and Realtor for a number of years I sometimes decide/choose to do some home repairs myself. Not always a good idea. The other day I dropped a (1) marble tile top from a pair bedroom nightstands and broke the tile. The piece was a rather unusual size - 14 x 14 inches. Since this tile top matches the top of the other piece I thought I will just go down to a marble store and buy 2 new pieces. However, the size proved to be a major problem. Well after visiting many ( 8+) tile stores and was told repeated that they do not and will not cut tile, granite or marble. I finally found one granite/marble store that said they would do it. I asked it they had leftover pieces from work they had done and they pointed me to a very large area of hundreds of small leftover pieces. After 30 minutes or so I picked out a piece. Went and got the associate and had her give me an estimate of $ 280. Was stunned. (These nightstands are not worth that amount of investment so I went to a tile warehouse and after some evaluation bought my own tile cutter. I will be getting back to you on my upcoming cutting advanture. Who knows what will happen? Will I have success or not? I promise to report back on my adventure.
