#The Constitution if the United State of America - Why We Celebrate July 4th in the USA! #Active Rain member Jay Markanich has blogged a timely post about The Constituion which has been featured here and raining in our community. Many have read it and certainly a great deal more have yet to read it, yet they reap the benefits. Here are some of the spirited comments below.. before you read his blog:
"There are those who would remove them from our lives, however. Four Supreme Court Justices do not think there are natural rights!
The word "right" has taken on a twisred definition in the last 40 years thanks to intentional politicians buying votes! That is not a good thing unless you are one of the politicians or benefactors thereof!
Now onto the word "rights" when you take someone's ability to have those rights by that act you have defined them as separate. We all want and deserve equality even if it is uncomfortable.
240 years of sustenance by principles that span centuries and generations speaks volumes as to the foundational value of those principles!
What so many who are throwing around their "rights" fail to understand is that with rights come responsibility. We have God given rights, but if we want to use them, we need to do it ourselves. We have no right to expect someone else to hand us anything.
I am really sick of people screaming that they have a right to enjoy the bounty of what someone else has earned. I'm even more disgusted with our elected officials agreeing with them!
Great post, Jay. And with those inseparable rights come obligations for us to protect them with all our might.
What say you?
The Fourth of July - our freedoms and individual rights are inseparable.
Before we can understand what the Fourth of July is about, and the word RIGHTS, we need to define a couple of other words.
SELF EVIDENT - we believe the truths set forth in our founding documents to be self evident. This means common sensical, not needing definition or description, and understood by all. They stand alone and are natural. Hence the term we hear so often "natural rights."
ENDOWED - we believe our rights to be endowed by our Creator. The word means something much more than a financial endowment given to a hospital or university. Endowed in the context of the Declaration of Independence means something which is given or bestowed upon the person or mind; a gift of nature; an accomplishment; a natural capacity. From this word is derived the term "natural rights."
UNALIENABLE - we believe our rights to be unalienable. This means inseparable, unable to be taken away from or given away by the possessor.
I hear the word "right" thrown around a lot by people who obviously don't know what it means. What many refer to as a "right" has morphed in the past couple of decades into a CLAIM, not a natural endowment.
A RIGHT is something that I enjoy simultaneously with others and my enjoyment of that right does not infringe on another person's ability to enjoy it as well. It costs me nothing. My enjoyment costs another nothing. And I have no claim on another to provide me my rights.
So, in terms of our founding documents, there are no such things as "rights" based on heritage, gender, this or that small group, or anyone's behavior.
Therefore, there are no gender rights, homosexual rights, patient rights, housing rights, educational rights, racial rights, health care rights, a minimum or living wage right, animal rights, any form of right to another's servitude, privacy rights, rights based on age, or any other false "rights." There are only the self evident, natural rights endowed by our Creator that are unalienable, and not claims. These recently-proclaimed "rights" cannot be found in our documents because they are not self evident, endowed or unalienable from the rest. That they are "found" in or protected by the Constitution as "penumbras of shadows" is laughable and sneaky.
Why are claims not rights? Because these claims would have to be provided by someone else! Others would be forced to give up their money, property, involuntary cooperation, and even life. These claims could only be provided by coercion. That is NOT self evident or natural. Coercion is tyrannical.
THAT IS EXACTLY THE INTENT OF THE FOUNDING DOCUMENTS OF OUR COUNTRY - THAT WE SHOULD BE PROTECTED FROM TYRANNY, OF ANY SORT, LIMITING ANY GOVERNMENT THAT SHOULD SO THINK IT CAN TYRANNICALLY IMPOSE ANYTHING.
So, as we go about our day in celebration of the RIGHTS we have been endowed with, and the free exercise thereof, let us remember from whom they come, and from what they are derived.
AND WHAT PROTECTS THEM FROM THE ENCROACHMENT OF TYRANNY, HARD... OR SOFT!
