Services for Real Estate Pros

Becoming a home inspector can be a great career move that offers an average salary of $70k and a flexible schedule. What’s even better is, you don’t need construction experience to get started. Plenty of home inspectors have experience in industries unrelated to real estate.

While it isn’t necessary to have construction experience, depending on where you are, your state may require you to be licensed in order to become a home inspector. If you’re interested in a career change, there are a few steps you can take to get started.

You should consider assessing both your construction knowledge and people skills. There are courses and training that you can do as well. If your state requires you to be licensed, you will need to pass the exam. Afterwards, you can boost your business by joining an association such as ASHI and NAHI.

Once you’ve completed all the steps, you’re ready to decide how you want to do business. For home inspectors there are 3 options to choose from. You can either work for an established firm, start your own, or consider buying a franchise. After you’ve chosen a path, you must make sure to continue learning. The industry is constantly changing and in order to keep competing, you will need to learn the new skills necessary.

You do need a license in Florida.  I would imagine that once you do get your license that you have to network much like a realtor to get customers.
