There are many designations a Realtor® or broker can have and often one places their business cards to show what trainings they may have. An experienced agent typically has been in and out of schooling and carries an assortment of certification hang on their wall.

In our area these are come common ones.

  • ALHS = Accredited Luxury Home Specialist
  • ABR= Accredited Buyer’s Representative
  • CBR = Certified Buyers Representative
  • CCIM=Certified Commercial Investment Member
  • CDPE=Certified Distressed Property Expert
  • CRP = Certified Relocation Professional
  • CRS = Certified Residential Specialist
  • e-Pro =Internet training Professional
  • FTBS= First Buyer Specialist Certification
  • Green= Green Designation (100,200, 300)
  • GRI = Graduate Real Estate Institute
  • CIPS = Certified International Property Specialist
  • CLHMS = Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist
  • GHS= Generational Housing Specialist
  • MRPC= Military Relocation Professional Certification
  • PPC= Paperless Pro Certification (No, this is a trade mark and does not mean pay per click)
  • PSA=Pricing Strategy Advisory Certification
  • RSPS=Resort & second home property specialist
  • SRES=Senior Real Estate Specialist
  • SFR= Short Sale Foreclosure Resource Certification
  • SRC= Senior Real Estate Specialist
  • SRS = Seller Representative Specialist
  • RRS = Registered Relocation Specialist

The accreditation an agent lists often means they took the time spending money and time studying. An agent often only lists only a few which they themselves feel are most applicable and meaningful. All agents and brokers must complete continuing education or CE courses in order to renew their license.

I know one agent named Mimi spent $15,000+ on many designations listed above. She goes to listing presentation showing these designations to justify she wants top commission. There are also other agent wanting her to join their team to show these credentials.

What credentials do you possess and how they help you to be more successful?

In terms of dollar value...have to say it's CDPE...not just for the certification..

but for what we learned in handling the art of short sales.

100% in agreement.  While training is important, dealing with foreclosed homes to be auctioned 11th hour the training is important.

But I do not remember any client who would become excited knowing that I have multiple RE designations and certifications....:)

They are not for my clients, but for me. I like learning new staff.

It is worth pursuing at negotiating credential.

I always wanted to try used car sales. I was told it was brutal and make one more aggressive and wanting to be successful.

The Last Name You'll Ever Need in Real Estate

I imagine that some of our clients are impressed by our designations but I'm not sure they provide any real value. The course work, at least in my experience, isn't groundbreaking and the requirements are minimal.
