Real Estate 1963? Here's a possible example of marketing.

Real estate card 1963 Benton Harbor

House description 1963 real estate

Look!  I captured this treasure in an antique store for 10 cents.  It is a card with a house on one side and a description of the house on the other.  Further examination indicates that it was a method to market the house!

I fail to find a state but perhaps you know where Benton Harbor is.  It has the broker's name (Lindenfeld), the price of the house, the size of rooms, the taxes, the terms of showing and just about the same thing we put in our MLS listings today!  It says it has a full basement so that rules out most of the South as its location.  It even says the information is believed accurate but is not warranted.

I love the card and if you know this Fred and Ruth Baker, tell them I have a neat card regarding the sale of their house in 1963!

Isn't that amazing?  What a difference 50+ years make.  Not long ago, I came across an old trunk in my garage that had an ole MLS book from 1982.

Benton Harbor is a city in Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan which is located west of Kalamazoo, and northwest of South Bend, Indiana. In 2010, the population was 10,038 according to the census.

I bet this CMA is much better and professional than most of today's

Barbara I would like to use your picture in my quarterly meeting to my agents, if it is OK with you.

JM, that sounds fine to me.  I was hoping you were from this city so you could send me a picture of the house as it looks now!  Thanks for the information about the state.

Myrl, I started real estate in 1979.  In 1982 we started the MLS route.  I kept sold books from then on.  When we no longer had books I donated mine to the Board office and they are down there on shelves.  Once I needed info on a house and the info was secret because of its nature and the courthouse said they had no record so I went back to my old sold book and found it!!

Benton Harbor is a very familiar city in Michigan to me. It was the location of  the electronic kit manufacturer Heathkit. I built at least 3 kits.

Notable were an oscilloscope in 1958, and a voltmeter, and finally a FM radio tuner which I built in Germany when I was in the Air Force.

If Harold reads this, he will chime in.

Thanks for the interesting blog. I bought my second house in 1965 for $29,950 and sold it for $765,000 in 2005. In California, of course.

Don, you have always been so progressive.  I still don't know what those things are that you built when you were a kid!  That is a darned good increase in value of a house, too!  I'll bet you can even find me a picture of the house in the ad as it is today.

Don always posts interesting things. Yes, when I was a kid I mail ordered and built several Heathkits. You who are not familiar with Heathkits, they were a do-it-yourself build of electronic devices. They would supply you the individual parts and detailed step-by-step instructions for assembly. They started our as very high quality products and were known to be easy to build. Through the years, especially after they were acquired by Radio Shack, the quality went down. I must have built a half-dozen of their kits, mostly ham radio stuff, but none as complicated as the oscilloscope Don refers to. I knew a couple of people who built their color TV, a real challenge but known as among the best color TVs around at the time

Harold Gene, you and Don must have been the smartest kids in Searcy AR when you when you were growing up.  It is hard to believe that some people could build their own TV sets!  And I still don't know what an oscilloscope is!
