I am THRILLED that it is FRIDAY!
This morning, I did not want to work today. Have you ever had that feeling? You just, don't feel like working. You know what you need to do, you just struggle to get motivated to do it. We all face that. Some people face it many times a week or even in a day. How we react at that time goes a long way towards determining how easy life is for us. If you are easy on yourself, life will be tough on you. But if you are tough on yourself, life will be easy on you. Always has been that way, and always will be.
So how do we make sure that at these key times, these times that we all face where we just can't seem to get going, we create the private victories that ultimately turn the tide? Different people may use different methods but the following seem to work pretty well:
-Create positive habits. A morning ritual or some quiet time and exercise gets you going physically and mentally. This puts you in a more energetic frame of mind and energy is a key factor in avoiding the "blues".
-Re-focus on your vision/mission. It starts with clarity on your vision and mission. If you have never written down why you are doing this business, what the big picture is, then no wonder you struggle to get going. Clarity on your mission and vision is one of the best things you can do to not only grow your business, but stay fired up. Where the people lack vision they perish....
-Just do it. Sometimes, you just need to tell yourself to gut it out and force yourself to get going. Whether it is to make that phone call or organize that office, the journey of a thousand steps begins with one. Just choose one small task that is simple and do that first. You don't have to tackle the whole mountain. Just get one small thing accomplished and you have had success. Success breeds on itself. So knock off that little todo and then get on to the others.
-Do the worst thing first. A lot of times, knowing you have to do something you don't want to do like deny a customer, can lead you to feeling lethargic. So knock off that tough thing first. Get it out of the way and your energy will instantly improve.
There are many other methods you can use to get going but the key really comes down to managing your energy. Control your energy, and you can control a good portion of your day. At least, you can control your reactions. And how we act at these key times can make all the difference.
