This week my husband and I attended the Keller Williams Career Visioning training program as we are committed to growing our team and our real estate business. I have a list of blog topics that I plan on writing about over the next few weeks. They revolve around my A-HA moments. One of the biggest a-ha moments for me was in the realization of the truth of the idea that as you evolve in your business your staff and team, which sometimes include family members or people you've grown very close to over the course of your career, may not be the right fit to move along with you.
We didn't leave you behind. You chose not to keep up.
Business is a lot like the animal kingdom. It's survival of the fittest. Unlike the animal kingdom, however, it's not necessarily the small and weak that are picked off. Because business is what you make of it, small can be nimble. Weak can work out and gain strength, or they can join another and fill in each other's gaps. Likewise, the strong can be left behind if they don't continue learning and growing.
If you aren't moving forward, you are falling behind.
This is a saying that I learned years ago and have thought about it nearly every day in my home staging business. Real estate is no different. You must constantly evolve if you want to get on top, or even stay on top. Doing what you did yesterday isn't likely to yeild you the same results a year from now.
A committment to education, business devolopment, and technology immersion is required in today's fast paced environment. Even if you just want to continue to perform at last year's pace, you'll likely need to expand your development in at least some areas.
When members of your business family don't keep up, unfortunately you may just need to let them stay where they are, even if it is no longer by your side. That's not being mean or uncaring, it's just the nature of the beast. As you grow, in order for your counterparts to stay by your side, they must also continue to grow. Likewise, if you are the companion, you may find yourself left behind if you decided not to keep up with the education, development, and technology that your leaders or peers are digesting.
