North Gate Station
Across the street from Big Canoe's North Gate is a series of buildings that have been sitting vacant since for awhile. These buildings are part of the Shoppes at North Gate Station. Currently in the North Gate Station there are a few businesses, an ice cream parlor, and a furniture consignment shop.
A Few Good Restaurants
The good news for Big Canoe, Georgia residents is that a new restaurant and bar will be opening in the near future. This will add another choice of places to dine in our area and this new turn of events has residents excited. Currently Big Canoe residents have a choice of eating out at a few good restaurants in the area, such as in the Clubhouse at Lake Sconti, the wonderful full service restaurant and bar called "The Black Bear Pub." Outside of the North Gate, is a fairly new restaurant called Home, which has delicious food in a contemporary mountain atmosphere. While there is an Italian restaurant and a Mexican restaurant in a shopping center just down the road from the North Gate, and more restaurants in Jasper twenty five minutes away, having a new restaurant this close to the North Gate will be very convenient for Big Canoe residents.
The Sourwood Cafe
The new restaurant, owned by Randy Muecke, is scheduled to open in late summer. It will be called "Sourwood Cafe" after the Sourwood trees that are prevalent North Georgia. The restaurant will offer indoor as well as outdoor dining, and a bar. The bar area will provide sandwiches and large TVs for sports lovers who will be able to stop by for a sandwich and a game without needing reservations. And for those who need to be connected at all times, Wi Fi will be available.
The Sourwood Cafe will offer local southern cuisine as well as produce from local farmers. Small plates will be offered along with larger meals. A wide selection of wine and craft beers will be available. The planned decor is supposed to be cozy and comfortable and a place where people can dress comfortably to enjoy each others company and good food and drink.
The residents of Big Canoe will be the immediate market for the Sourwood Cafe, since it is so close, but the new manager hopes to attract residents from all over North Georgia once the restaurant and bar are up and running. This is all music to the ears of many of our residents who enjoy having a variety of restaurants to choose from within close vicinity of Big Canoe.
Stay tuned and I will hopefully be able to give you all a wonderful review of my first delicious meal at the Sourwood Cafe before Fall comes to Big Canoe!
