When I first got into Real Estate, 9 short years ago, I sent friend requests on Facebook to anyone who graduated from my high school (and, yes, that is my high school yearbook photo). I searched for graduates from 15 years before I graduated (to cover my siblings's friends) to 10 years after I graduated and added several hundred new friends to my personal Facebook account, all with ties to Cranford where we do a lot of business and all with friends with ties to the town.
For years, I posted real estate articles on Facebook, mixed with my personal musings, usually about music or astronomy. Eventually, we joined Active Rain and learned how to write market reports and started posting them to Facebook. People in Cranford started to recognize us as the people who know Cranford's real estate market.
Then one day I got a private message from a woman who graduated six years AFTER I did. We had never met and our only connection was the high school we graduated from. She needed to sell her father's house. She said that she read our posts and was confident we knew the area. She had also asked some mutual friends about me and heard good things.
A week later, I met with her and got the listing signed. The house was on the market for 8 days and sold at list price. She was ecstatic about how quickly the home sold and posted on line about her home selling experience. We can trace several subsequent deals to this one sale.
This is not the only success we've had on social media, but it was our first, and therefore our sweetest.
