By
Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices - C. Dan Joyner 21498

Moving is one of the most stressful experiences in life for anyone, but especially for your cats! Everyone that knows me knows I love cats ( the name of my blog is one clue: Raining Cats and Blogs). I came across this great info-graphic about moving with cats and wanted to share it with everyone.

I hope it helps anyone moving with cats to have a little less stress in their move and helps your cat be safer and more stress-free as well.. There are some before, during and after the move help ideas in this info-graphic. Enjoy:

Sheila, this is a great post and I will certainly share it in the future.   My move with a cat, 2 dogs and a Betta fish may have been easier had I only consulted you before the 1500 mile trip!

I'm not sure I could move with any of my cats.  They would totally flip out if their home changed. But all of our animals are older and I think it will be years before we move.  The only thing in the advice that I totally disagree with is for their food and litter box to EVER be in the same room.  Not even for a day do I think that would be okay.

I guess it depends on the size of the room... And I agree, the older the pet, the harder the move is on it!

Does the authority allows one to carry one of those home made carry on lugguge to the plane and stuff in the overhead compartments?

Sometimes when I am stuck between Mr and Mrs Biggs on the plane. I feel I am not treated as good as some of these animals.

We are all in a tight sardine can together. Peanuts and pretzels are not considered treats.

I've moved twice with my cat - not easy. He was so stressed out and got sick when I put him in his carrier. I felt horrible, but I had no choice. Thankfully, he bounced back pretty quickly once he realized that all our stuff was in the new place. These are great tips - when I move again next summer, I'll be referring back to this infographic for some tips! Thanks for sharing!

I suspect you will get pushback from the graphic about how to let your cat go outside. Indoor cats live longer and healthier lives. Whenever I move with my cats, I live them in a spare bedroom until I pretty much finish unpacking the house. Eliminates accidents due to stress.

Cats are hard to move with no matter if they are indoor or out..they are so sensitive to their environment

Moving has been very traumatic for all the cats I have ever owned. This is great advice about how to prepare them before, during, and after. Love the pictures!

Loved the infographic. I've personally moved with multiple cats nationally, internationally, locally-- and in my case, it's never been an issue and cats adapted well.

These are wonderful tips for people with cats. Pets can get stressed, just as people can. By the way, the picture with the cat peeking out of the carrier case made me laugh. That cat was not happy.

my cats hate their carrier... it always means something bad ( going to vet, traveling somewhere..)... but gotta keep them safe!

Good tips for moving with a cat. I would suggest getting the cat chipped and info updated as the First thing to do before a move. My other suggestion would be to give the cat an actual box. Cats love cardboard boxes.

Jul 14, 2016 05:05 AM
Sheila Newton Team Anderson & Greenville SC

I guess I assume all cats are chipped now days, but i'm sure that isn't true.. that is very important!!
