First you make a decision to sell your home. Next you decide whether you will tackle the "do it yourself" strategy or turn it over to the professionals. Now there is something new that you are being told is a "must do." It's called staging. Do you or don't you? It can be an unexpected expense but it is a necessary evil in the market today.
What does it really mean anyway? Believe it or not, it's quite simple. You "stage" the house to appear to the potential buyer that they are moving into "their" house. The art of visual conception plays a large role in the decision making for many people. If a buyer can't visualize themselves in your home then they will move on to the next home. Staging separates your normal living conditions from the potential buyers sight. This includes eliminating most of "your" things...such as personal photos, refrigerator magnets, clutter and your children's artwork. The house will appear more like a model home than your home. This is to allow the buyers to see themselves living in that space.
All in all it will be money well spent. The statistics say that a staged house will sell faster and at a better price than the home that you are still "living in."
