Thursday Nights are "Adult Night" at SF's Exploratorium

The Exploratorium is San Francisco's hands-on science museum. The first of its kind in the country, it has been wowing residents and visitors alike since 1969.

The expanded location at Pier 15 along the Embarcadero allows for more displays than ever, including the visiting exhibition of Theo Jansen's dream machines, the Strandbeest, now through September 5.

Come take one of the smaller strandbeests for a walk!

Open daily in June, July and August, there is one evening each week set aside for adults 18 and older - Thursdays, from 6:00 - 10:00 PM. This is a great idea for a date night, for a work group to enjoy, or any adult wishing smaller crowds.

For hours, directions, parking, and cost, check out the official web site at:

The Exploratorium was always a great "hands-on" fun science museum for kids and adults.  I'm glad to see that has reopened.

Adult night at the museum.  Someone should come up with some kind of movie along these lines.  Especially with the 'Strandbeest'.  Looks to be fun night.  Mark

Good morning Peggy Yee - I can't remember how long the Exploratorium was closed when it made its move from the Palace of Fine Arts to Pier 15 - 1 year? The new location and larger space is awesome.

Hi Bob "RealMan" Timm - the Exploratorium should be on your "must see" list on your next visit to San Francisco.

Hi Lauren Selinsky CRS ePro - I'm intrigued -- who are your blondies??? Tell me more!

Good morning, Noah Seidenberg - The Exploratorium is bigger and better than ever. Wonderful for people of all ages, and adult night gives one a chance to really delve into some of the exhibits. Highly recommended for your next trip here.

Good morning, Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint - the Strandbeest exhibit was the catalyst that finally lured us to Adult Night - we had a marvelous time and could enjoy many exhibits in a more in-depth fashion than when youngsters are pushing every button to see what happens.

Laura Allen, Lake Tahoe - Truckee Real Estate for Sale www.TahoeLauraLuxuryHomes.com - you've nailed it! That's one of the primary goals of the Exploratorium - making science understandable and intriguing for all. They have a wonderful outreach program.

Hi Lottie

Thanks for the "tour" of the Exploratorium. As many times as I have visited SF I have yet to get there.

It's been a long time since I've been to the Exploratorium. Don't think we'll have time for it when I come to see Jenny Lewis in September. Drats.
