Here is my entry in the Active Rain and City Blast contest asking us to talk about our biggest Social Media Success Story. I think this is an excellent contest because if one reader gets the hint from reading my story or someone else, it is a big winner. Social Media is so important in today's business world. So here goes.
I could tell you many success stories. I use Social Media every day of the week, I have a routine that I follow that hits so many options and I track the results. The community I work in is one that many people are coming in from all over the country. Many people come to Evanston IL for Northwestern University and many people who are working in Chicago land want to live here. It is paradise but that is another story. I will not go that route.
One time about 5 years ago I got a call from a woman who lived out east. She said that her husband had been offered a position in downtown Chicago and that they had determined the place they wanted to live was in the town I live in and work, Evanston IL. They did not know any Realtors so they did their own research. The woman and her husband came upon me because I am always writing bogs about how much I love my community and all the local events and things to do. We started by sending them house listings for a few months. One day I got the call that they wanted to come to town the following weekend and look at houses. The job position was accepted.
When they came to town and called me the wife said she wanted to see 16 houses on Saturday. I said it was too many and that they would forget what they liked and did not like. She cut me off and said she knew what she was doing and had moved 3 times in the last 5 years. Please let me run the show. I listened to her and picked them up and started our long journey in my car. I was really tired after that day but it ended up fun and we really hit it off talking in my car and even connecting personally by the end of the day. Part of the conversation was that they had gone through some awful experiences with Realtors and home inspectors who were not honest and that they had really researched me as their choice of Broker to make the purchase.
We picked out a home they loved. When we hit the closing as we walked out to the car at the end with keys on hand the husband and wife hugged me. They thanked me for doing it their way and they loved their new house. They gave me a $100 gift card to Whole Foods and these folks are still in touch with me occasionally. I cried tears of joy on the way home.
