RICHIES HOT DOG DAYS

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with people first...then business Ran Right Realty 636943 licensed to thrill

In between times, I used to sell hot dogs, snow cones and drinks from a little cart that I would drive around town. I had my favorite spots and they expected me daily. I also used to do special occasions and the YMCA was a favorite stop. The kids love it and looked forward to having their hot dog with whatever they wanted on it, a snow cone, bag of chips or a drink

NONE BETTER COULD BE HAD ANYWHERE

I prided myself on carrying the best meats, sausages and breads. But I didn't stop there. I had the freshest and best condiments your money could buy. My mustard was top of the line PLUS I mixed it with pickle juice which gave it a custom after bite and taste. A real nice kick to a sandwich. Onions were fresh cut and perfect sized for the sandwich. My relish, mayonnaise, jalapenos, pickles and ketchup were all premium

TRUCK STOPS

I had trucks stops where the truckers would all order two massive dogs or sausages topped with everything followed by their choice of a large snow cone with fresh milk and syrups. My ice was blue and clear and just the right size for either slurping or crunching. It got to the point where I had to carry around six fold-able chairs on top of my cart because people-liked to sit and jaw while eating

SNOW CONE FLAVORS

I had 10 famous syrups of flavor for my fresh snow cones and upped that to double the choices. Kids and adults couldn't make up their minds on what flavor to have. I constantly had to advise which flavors complimented when mixed and which destroyed. People wanted to try them all.

CROWDS FORMED PEOPLE ATE

I used to pull into places and sell out in an hour or two. Other places it took about 6 hours. People love these little carts and I knew they would flock to me. I just wanted to serve the best foods so that they had a premium experience. Good money, good times and the simplicity of life itself.

DOLLAR DOGS

I carried dollar dogs for the kids and the less fortunate. Then, a premium choice and then a super tasty I'll have another type dog. Buns were steamed, dogs were boiled and what many don't know is that if boiled in a beef bullion boiling water, the dogs flavor increases 6 fold. As a further bonus, the smell permeated the air, the looks, the pricing and then the taste topped off by the experience. A poor man can step up and feed his large family well for under ten bucks and walk away proud and content

MAKE YOUR OWN

I let people fix their own toppings. You weren't supposed to but I wanted people to make their own and some people went all out carefully taking their time to build a sandwich of their liking. This is what you expect from these little carts and places. The personal touch or experience. A dog with everything on it not only looked good, but tasted wonderful too. Made the sandwiches twice their size when piled on

OSCAR MEYER FLAGGED ME DOWN

I was once followed and then asked to pull over by a man. I did. He said he worked for Oscar Meyer Wiener and wanted me to appear at all their shows. I would be given an exclusive with the understanding I serve their product. This meant a guaranteed income of $2-4K per day for any event attended. The problem was the logistics of it. They wanted me to travel distances and it was too much to go on the road with this to faraway places.

THERE'S RICHIE...and off we go

I got to know people in the neighborhoods where I went and they knew me. Sometimes I bought people a dog with everything no charge. The looks on their faces stay with me today. I met cops, criminals, stopped crime, helped people, made friends, heard stories and I have stories galore after two years of carting around. Richie's Snow Cones, Hot dogs and drinks...

Richie, right now I'm feeling an uncontrollable urge for a dog boiled in beef bullion, with your special mustard and relish and onions and catsup!  I love a good dog every so often, and yours sound totally worth the calories!  Yum!

Richie Alan Naggar - I too have a hot dog vendor in my family history.  My father-in-law bought a push cart after the war in Chicago and started his business not unlike you!

This just shows what real entrepreneurmanship is all about. You became a successful businessman at a young age offering a product that people could not wait to get their hands on!

Patricia Kennedy ...for those that loved Hot Dogs, they learned to love them deeper with Richies best Hot Dogs....Love does do it all

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI ...my son-law at the time burned down the garage where my little cart was stored. It would take $20k for a new one which was money I didn't have. When I eyed brick & mortar for a permanent base of operations, another opportunity presented itself. I went with it. No regrets...There are many life paths to follow but I did dogs right

Sheri Sperry - MCNE ...it is as simple as you say. Whatever one does, do with all their heart. They will get a return...guaranteed

Bob "RealMan" Timm ...the choice process, life circumstances & paths all have a say so in the best laid plans of mice and of men....This I have learned

Sharon Tara ...it was all those things and more. Loyal dog lovers watched for me. The health inspector ate at my stand. My competition kept their distance and every once in a while, I would wolf down two...with everything on it. Yummy

Hi Richie Alan Naggar ,  I'm sure that was quite an experience.  I remember pushing an ice crean cart around town when I was in High School.  I got paid for the ice cream I sold, minus what I ate.  It wasn't very profitable.  Lol

Richie= you are now a favorite of mine for another reason!!!  I happen to love hot dogs!  Any chance you might want to move to sunny Florida and hang out on the beaches and reintroduce your hot dogs???   What I love and is missing from so many businesses is the pride you took in your product.  Love this post.

Kathy Streib ... I can take that model and do it anywhere and succeed. Why? The main reason other than I know what to do is that I loved doing it. The heart never lies and it calls to its like kind...the heart in others. You have heart Kathy

You can't fake quality. People try all the time and go out of business very quickly. You did it right and everyone knew it. Your business model and your work ethic and integrity spoke for itself.

I was a good humor man in Kansas City, MO selling ice cream.  You lease a truck and sell ice creams drive around town. The good routes are taken and I get the high end doctors and lawyers neighborhood which are not good routes. They are mostly on vacation. You sell on State Road in Kansas. Some smart alec lawyer wants to see your KS business license from a teen ager.  Kids are just as greedy wanting deformed rejects for free.

Also my employee Jose, a Central American tech left his high tech job selling tacos in Miami, FL.   He did not realize Cubans there do not eat tacos just sandwiches. Six months later I hired him back.

Hello Sam Shueh #1...Sam the ice cream man. You know your stuff. I was hassled, shot at and the hot spots could be war zones. I'm selling hot dogs here

Sam #2...fascinating little tid-bit that can make or break you in business. Cuban's invented the cubano sandwich. Tacos are for losers per them
