I don't want to write this blog.
I don't want to ask of you what I'm going to ask of you. And that's to support a cause, make a donation of your time or money to a cause and join a cause if you haven't done so already.
I don't want to do this, but I have to.
I have to for my mom because my mom fought cancer for 10 years and beat it. But she didn't beat Alzheimer's disease.
Please don't stop reading. There is something important you need to know.
And here it is.
Alzheimer's might be coming for you. And it could be coming for me too.
Let that sink in.
We might be out selling houses one day and then not remember how to get back home. That's what happened to my mom. She had been shopping and couldn't remember the way home.
That's scary.
After we lost mom, I didn't want to have anything to do with this horrible monster of a disease. But a friend of mine (who's father had Alzheimer's disease and who is one of my clients) started a fund raising effort last year in connection with our local hockey team, the Tulsa Ice Oilers. He invited me and I went even though I didn't want to. And so today I'm in the fight to find a cure because that night changed me. It helped me to begin with the reality of losing a parent.
But here's the problem with Alzheimer's Disease
1. Alzheimer's disease is seriously underfunded.
2. We don't want to talk about this disease because it's scary and we'd rather just go sell Real Estate.
It's like this email I keep getting from the NAR. I know it's important and I should go click the link and get involved and do whatever it is they want me to do, but I've got stuff to do. And really, I mean, what can I do? I'm just one person and those people are big powerful politicians who don't really care what I think, right? Others will do it...except that they might not.
So here's what I'm asking of you...
FIND A CAUSE TO SUPPORT. Many of us already have a cause that we volunteer for, but many of us still don't. I didn't until Alzheimer's disease invaded our lives and took my mom. Now, I am determined to wipe this disease out. Especially since I recently found out that all of us have almost a 1 in 2 chance of getting Alzheimer's. I cannot settle for that. We have to find a cure before it strikes us! So find your cause to support if you don't have one. And if you don't have one, please support Alzheimer's research. We need to give back because Real Estate, for as crazy as it is, gives us a pretty comfortable life style.
SECOND, watch my video about what we are doing this year with the Alzheimer's walk and my friend's Alzheimer's Awareness night at the Tulsa Oilers Ice Hockey game. He and I are on our own with the hockey game fundraiser. We receive no funds from the Alzheimer's Association. And all the money we raise will go to research and development for a cure.
FINALLY, please consider donating to my walk team or to the cause you support. I have set a lofty goal of raising $5,000. I'm asking you to help me reach that goal. Especially if your family has had to deal with this horrible disease. Any donation is appreciated! Even $5 will go towards finding a cure.

It could save your life.
