Throwback Thursdays - Presidential Dogs

I am talking about politics here but about the canine variety. On a recent trip to D.C. I got to take a tour of the White House. It had been 35 years I had visited the First Family's home and noted some changes. Security was much more intense with about 5 layers of screening to clear.

While waiting to be screened for entry I got to see the Presidential Dogs, Bo and Sunny. They are beautiful animals and very poised and well behaved. They were taking their morning walk accompanied by their assigned Secret Service agents early on that Tuesday monring. I had to wonder if the agents resented having to do this duty or considered it the highlight of their day?

Presidential Dogs

Both of the dogs are Portuguese Waterdogs. They are hypoallergenic. Bo is a male that came to live at the White House when he was  few months old. He was born in 2008. Bo has white markings of sock feet and a white chest. Now Sunny is a good compliment to Bo. She is all black and of good temperament. She came to the White House as a pup in 2013 to give Bo some company.

Bo and Sunny Obama were the only members of the Presidential Family we got to see on our trip. Since I love dogs I consider this a real highlight.

Hello Debbie.  Love your 'diplomacy', either way, in stating you were delighted in seeing only the pooches.  Maybe you should be running yourself.    I have to wonder as well how the security feels walking the dogs.  Mark

Good Morning Debbie -  It has been quite some time since I have gone to the White House.  It was really a treat in timing that you got to see the dogs.

Hi Debbie - Cool dogs. I'd prefer to see the dogs anyhow, and I'd love to be on that secret service detail.

What a cool photo Debbie, I bet the agents had to like it and knew they were not not on high alert.

Debbie I resent the fact that I see so many "dog owners" here in Beverly Hills, Malibu, Bel Air, Brentwood and the list goes on and on and they are being walked by house keepers, Gardner's, cooks, secret service agents etc. the list goes on and on. The dogs are not being loved by their owners it is just a status symbol or a political statement...sorry for my rant... my dog loves me and is walked and fed by me and Diane...Endre

Why should dogs be different than children I do not like nannies for children either...we too walk our dog and love on her!

Hi Debbie Reynolds ,  I would think it would break the monotony of their jobs. Do you think the dogs had special behavioral training?

Debbie ,

I have also never been to the White House but have been to DC many times and I love it! I can see why it would be a highlight to see them!

Hi Debbie... I've been to the White House several times and have never seen any Presidential dogs about. So many interesting dog residents there over the years.
