Maui's North Shore Realtor Caravan July 2016
Thursday is the day we head out and preview some new listings on the north shore of Maui, in Paia, and Haiku. We convene at the beautiful Maui Country Club in Spreckelsville to exchange information and network. After the meeting we car pool or drive on our own to see the homes for sale. It was a big line up of properties priced from around $500,000 and up to $6,400,000.
The first one in Kuau, is very close to the ocean, with a transformed old plantation house. What a well thought out property, with a house and pool, a roof top deck to enjoy the ocean views, and a cozy guest suite around back. Indoor and outdoor living blend perfectly together with the help of pocket doors that disappear into the walls. I can't believe I liked the effect of the artificial grass underfoot, but it really helped to connect the living spaces. This upscale and hip beach house is asking $2,550,000.
Entry level is now half a million dollars.
Plenty of other homes and land were on the list for viewing, kind of all over the map, which is typical for Haiku. Some nice country estates and some humble starter homes, if you can call a half million dollar price tag a starter home! Two homes were in the $500K price range, so what will that buy you? In this case, either a small 3BD/2BA home with garage and a decent sized yard, or a 2BD/1BA residential condo detached home sharing a valley with a group of other small cottages.
Mid-priced homes from $700,000 and up.
Two other Paia/Kuau 3BD homes were being offered for $875,000 and $935,000. Both of them provide the opportunity to own a nice house on a lot in this popular beach town. In Haiku you're going to get a larger piece of ground with your purchase and there were 2 listings under $1M with 1/2 - 1 acre. Take your pick from either a 4BD/2.5BA home needing updating, or a sweet little 2BD home tucked away in the jungle next to a waterfall/stream. Maybe you'd prefer to buy 7 acres with ocean views and water meter and lots of potential to develop or subdivide, for $995,000.
Lots of inventory over $1,000,000.
In Haiku you'll find many properties that come with 2 acres or more, zoned Agricultural. While you might not consider these to be farms, you'd be surprised at how much food you can produce when you plant some fruit trees or coconuts. The climate in Haiku is really favorable to growing and I notice more and more buyers are looking for properties with the ability to provide food for their families. You can even find very large tracts of land for serious farming, at very reasonable prices.
Many luxury estates to choose from
Once you have a large budget for Maui real estate, the sky is the limit. There's oceanfront homes with jaw-dropping views, and sprawling country estates where you can pamper your horses, depending on your needs.
The best looking Haiku listing on Caravan was in my neighborhood of Huelo, where everyone lives off the grid and feels more connected to the land. Can you imagine falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on shore, and waking up to birds singing in the trees? Surrounded by all the natural beauty of Maui and the abundance of energy and life, you can't help but feel rejuvenated. Walk out to the stream and ocean, or spend time lazing by the hand tiled swimming pools. $6,400,000 will buy you 2 unique finely crafted homes, each with a swimming pool and outdoor bathroom, on roughly 10 acres, virtually oceanfront. Add in a lovely art studio and a caretaker's quarters, nature trails, self sufficient water and energy supply, and complete privacy and you could call this Heaven on Earth!
Whatever you're looking for in Haiku Maui, let me be your guide and be there to make sure you get the best possible deal. Haiku is where I live and work, and play.
