Social Media Success Stories - Still Learning

Managing Real Estate Broker with LoKation Real Estate

Social Media Success Stories Still Learning-  Like most I am still trying to figure out how to market myself on all of the ARdifferent social media platforms. I understand that we need to have a presence on as many possible mediums as we can, but how do we do that and feel good about ourselves.

Facebook to me is a place for personal relationships, yep I know it is becoming the best place for marketing a lot of businesses including real estate, but I have a hard time  pushing marketing myself out to old friends and family, for the most part they already know what I do and I want to separate business from pleasure, but here is how I use the platform and business does come from it.

I like to connect in person with as many people as I possibly can,  and a couple years ago I re-connected with an old friend on Facebook and I asked if she was available for coffee to catch up, we met and talked about our kids and our lives and filled in the last 25 years since we last spoke, the conversation obviously came back around to what we Facebookare both doing now, I told her I specialize in selling golf course homes and lo and behold she told me she lives on a golf course and needs to sell, we then got down to business and I sold her home.

This actually kicked off the second set of events, because she had another wonderful friend that I had also not seen in 25 years and this other friend was interested in getting into real estate, 2 and a half years later she has her license, has joined my brokerage (now for a year)  and she has been a very productive agent.

But perhaps the single biggest success story I have found was on Linkedin -  A few years ago I was the state broker for  a national real estate company, we were opening up states across the country and looking for new agents, our growth was slower than we had hoped, somewhere in the 250 agent count. During this process i was also attending a unique 12 week sales training class, every week I would report back to the owner of the company and explain what we Linkedinhad been discussing in our sales. We implemented a few of these ideas and found one that really took off on Linkedin, by promoting our company through various LI groups we were able to grow from 250 agents to over 2200 in just a few short weeks.

I realized at that point how critical this new social media way of marketing, is to our future success. Now I have a long way to go and want to become a master of using these tools for promotional and networking successes and look forward to hearing more from others in this Activerain Social Media Success contest.

Hi John - I have a similar story although I do B to B.  Linked In, and groups in particular, have brought me engagement and  business.

I tend to use LI for B2B and Fb for the personal, but they both work, still trying to find success on twitter, I dont think I have the patience or the time for that one

Hi John- What I find interesting is that we all have different social media stories but the single thread seems to be that whatever the platform, we work them. We offer consistency and interaction.

So true Kathy Streib , it does not matter where a "lead" comes from, if we dont follow up we don't have business, we just need to find what floats our boat, and enjoy the ride

Hi John - Those are great success stories and clear evidence that most social media platforms offer us something positive if we can find a way to match them up with our style and put in the effort.

Absolutely and I really did have to laugh at your take on Linkedin, I must have 3000 connections, each and every one I ask to meet for coffee if they are within a reasonable distance, but the majority just come back with "heres how I can help you" if they respond at all.

I just took a Facebook for Real estate professionals class yesterday, so much I did not know, which does not surprise me.
