Let's use a little history to be helpful.  Grease, the musical, is coming to town.....to Searcy AR and is to be performed at Theater on the Square  right here in our little city!  I look forward to going.  It will be a huge amount of work and they'll be working on costumes for sure.

So here is where we help out.  This is an authentic picture of what was worn in 1957 by really cool guys.  Notice!  Rolled up jeans, saddle oxfords (two-toned?), letter sweaters and jackets, and flat top haircuts.  And they felt their importance to the extent of being able to stop a vehicle right in its tracks.

I'm not telling who this cool guy was but you can guess if you'd like!

That "cool" dude is none other than Roger "Dude" Duncan. I'd know those 'bedroom' eyes anywhere. Having said that....he isn't wearing saddle oxfords, but two toned (probably brown and white) LOAFERS. (if you don't believe me, ask him)....

Anita, I trust you.  I guess I don't remember the difference in saddle oxfords and loafers.  So what is a saddle oxford?  Is that what we girls wore?

Anita is the shoe expert but I will chime in since we had this discussion before in I estimate 5 or more blogs. Anita admits having a fetish for saddle oxfords. She claims Spaulding made the original oxfords.

The saddle shoe is a low-heeled casual Oxford shoe (hence the alternate name "saddle oxford"), characterized by a plain toe and distinctive, saddle-shaped decorative panel placed mid foot.Saddle shoes are typically constructed of leather and are most frequently white with a black saddle, although any color combination is possible.

Here's a pair Barbara called "Anita's Inheritance" in one of the blogs.

Don, I knew I'd seen that picture before!!  Those shoes are still in my closet waiting for me to wear them to a great 50's party!!!  And that is what all the girls wore back then.  At least in a small town in Georgia.

Those red and white saddles aren't Spauldings, but they do have the distinctive red sole. I don't think I ever had a pair of black and whites.....always preferred brown and white. One time a friend of mine and I got a pair of all white saddles.....the shoe store was having a buy one pair, get another pair free....so we split the price. Wore them to school the following Monday and started a fashion trend in shoes. (the shoe store should have given us a commission, but they didn't)..

Anita, you are a shoe expert.  Should I change this whole blog now that I know what a saddle shoe is?  What do you remember about the guy's shoes?  Another picture, which I need to add, shows the Dude with multi-colored looking socks that must have matched the two-toned shoes?  Was he in-style or out.
