What Does Social Media Have to do with Success in Real Estate?

Real Estate Broker/Owner with KD Realty - 408.972.1822 CA BRE#01366594

That answer to that question will depend on who you ask.  ActiveRain asked the community to share our biggest Social Media Success Story

There is so much social media today. If I followed it all and participated in all of it my head would spin off my shoulders and that would be the end of me.

I do not aspire to attempt to be all things to all people - reach all markets and demographics.

I often feel I may be a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to “social media”.  I’ve never been one to follow the masses, jump on the latest bandwagon, or buy the newest shinny object.

Blogging graphic

My social media success is primarily blogging on my WordPress sites and on ActiveRain.

Late last year I began the task of cleaning up my AR posts and started substantial work on my San Jose Homes for Sale website. I started doing market reports again and posting regularly.

Both of my WordPress sites are set up so that when I post, it also posts to my Facebook Business Page, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Once my WordPress post is indexed, I post to G+ and ActiveRain.

I know blogging works.  I am amazed at how quickly the work I am doing on my WordPress site is causing my phone to ring.  That just inspires and motivates me to keep focused and keep doing what I am doing.

There is no sense in attempting to fix what ain't broken. I am not seeking more. My goal is quality over quantity.  Quality of my work product and quality in my clients.  I enjoy the freedom of of choice. Less is more for me. I enjoy researching and writting. Blogging is my platform for sharing.

I've been a member of ActiveRain for 8 years. There is no way to measure how ActiveRain has impacted my success or my success story.  I've learned a lot. I've grown a lot. I've made friends that I can call and pick their brain. Networking in this community is priceless.  I've made referrals to other professionals in this community. It feels good to make referrals to my clients with confidence knowing they will be well taken care of.  I've received referrals from other members of the AR community as well. Referrals that likely would never have been made if it were not for the connections made here in the Rain.

What a great story Kathleen. I remember you talking about the work you had to do. You are quite savvy and that plus the Real Estate knowledge you have adds to the success.

Glad to see that your blogging is paying off.  Sounds like our sites are setup much the same on the backed with the auto social network posting.  My G+ network was a whopping 3 people, so I stopped using it.  May have to start that back up after the success stories I'm hearing.

Kathleen, you are so right about this. There are so many ways to be "social" that you could find yourself too busy to sell homes. I follow a very similar path as you, and it has been a good fit for me.

HOME~There is no place like it!

There are so many options available for advertising that it can be overwhelming! Finding out what works for you and being able to measure success both in numbers and experiences seems like the best way to go! Quality shows!

Kathleen, thanks for the post.  I am happy to hear that your blogging has paid off as that is what I just started doing.

I particularly like that you are focusing on "quality over quantity".  That is my goal, too.  I like to work with nice people and to have the luxury to pick and choose my clients.  Have a happy day!

Hi Kathleen ---- referrals are golden.   And the success of this forum is measured beyond the business benefits.  Nice post.

Definitely, Blogging is a MUST!  Then extend the reach of audience thru your Social Media.  Consistency is the key!  We get so busy with so many other parts of our business, that we almost forget to keep blogging.  It's one of the very first things I do in the morning, and have been doing it for quite a few years (lost track of total years).  Great job!

Kathleen, I'm so glad I saw this post - I have admired you for a long time on AR!

I, too, have found that blogging has brought me the highest quality clients - not FB, Twitter or Yelp reviews.  But then, I get so busy taking care of new clients, that I'm too tired to blog!  And I enjoy blogging...and it works, so I don't know why I don't make myself do it every day!

Quick questions for you:  How are you going back and cleaning up old posts?  What exactly are you doing to them.  Second, you said when your WordPress post is indexed (how do you know?), you post it on G+ and ActiveRain.  Do you copy the post verbatim and re-post?  I've never been sure what the best practice is.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this!  Thank you!

I agree. I think the best thing we can do for our business is to continue to work on providing the best website out there with the best information for our local area.

The right Charlotte REALTOR!

Hi Kathleen!  You and I are SO on the same page - I have a Twitter account but, am not into the 'hit or miss' type of communication there.  I love keeping up with friends, family and clients on FB.  I belong to FB groups that are made up of AR members that I've known for 10 years or so - most have stopped blogging.  Why?  Various reasons - 'too busy,' 'didn't see anything come of it' or just 'too lazy!'  For me, I KNOW it works and I have been swamped for the past 3-4 years, totally incapable of spending any legitimate time on AR or on my WP site!

I turned my focus on face-to-face, spoiling my clients and working referrals only.  However, I STILL get AR leads - and honestly, they are ALWAYS good ones!  They read about the area, the get a keen sense of our personalities and VOILA!  They know us, want to work with us and already trust us!  I don't really know why I allowed my work load to take over my life - but, I'm back on track! LOL

The AR/website leads are what kept all of our businesses together when our spheres were so painfully quiet.  I'm getting out of my 'eggs in one basket' routine!!
