Home Staging Tip_Prepare the Lawn Before You Sell

The inside of your home may be perfectly clean, arranged, decorated and ready for even the pickiest of buyers to take a tour; but, if your lawn is a wreck, your great efforts on your home's interior may be for naught.

First impressions are almost impossible to change once made. If the first impression a potential buyers gets of your house starts from your front lawn, make your front lawn shine.

Here are a few tips for getting your lawn "sell ready":

  • Cut the grass: Yes, it's that simple. A nicely mowed lawn makes the home look well-maintained and cared for.
  • Trim the edges: Take the extra step and makes the edges of your yard look crisp and clean. Similar to tucking in your shirt, a properly-edged lawn looks neat and put-together.
  • Shape-up the shrubs: Make sure all your bushes are evenly trimmed and shaped.

  • Get rid of weeds: Whether they are in the flower bed or in between the cracks in your driveway, a yard free of weeds makes your house look pristine...and possibly worth more money!

  • Plant some fresh flowers: Add a new pop of color to your front yard with some season-appropriate flowers. Ask the garden department at your local hardware store or nursery for help in picking out the right kind of flower. The last thing you want is a bed of dead flowers a week after listing your home.

  • Add dimension: Consider adding another focal point or visual element to your front lawn, like a vertical planter near the front door, hanging planters filled with beautiful flowers on the front porch, or install window boxes and plant lovely flowers to frame your front windows. window boxes
  • Upgrade your mailbox and post: A simple change of mailbox can transform how nice your front lawn looks and how much more money you could get for your home.
  • Resod Your Lawn (if needed):  Let's face it, dead grass makes your front yard (and even home) look sad and neglected. To prevent your home for selling under your asking price, consider resodding your lawn. When buyers see the healthy, green grass in your front lawn, they can have only positive thoughts about your home. These simple tips can help your front lawn leave a wonderful first impression to potential home-buyers and ultimately, sell your home!
