When caregiving pay attention to new symptons

This week I am traveling to take care of my mother in law.  She had a heart valve replaced about a month ago and we kids all have careers so this week is my turn.   Although I have training I have the authority of a daughter in law not a daughter.

So far that has not been a problem.  My mother in law is recovering nicely and my trip was quite unnecessary.  Her significant other has proved to me that he can handle her minor needs.   Today she developed a new symptom.  Faintness.  Now if she had been getting faint all along it would not be of much concern.  NEW SYMPTOMS MUST BE LOOKED INTO.  I suggested that she call either her internist or surgeon.  She feels comfortable waiting until her doctors appointment next week.

I am not comfortable so I went onto a email chat to talk quietly to her children.  I also talked to her partner.  I do not know if anything was done but he did take her purse and telephone.

When dealing with surgical recovery or other medical issues new symptoms that have not been experienced before need to looked into.  The penalty for waiting can be terribly high.

So at the moment I sit blogging in my mother in law's living room while she rests in her bedroom.

Gets the job done!

The good news is that my contacting my sister in laws worked.  One of them called and asked how she was doing and my sil was able to talk her mom into calling the doctor.  She is now on her way with her partner.  I am the one my family calls to come to the hospital in an emergency.  Sitting on the sidelines is very new to me.

She is home again.  They figured out the problems.
