I wasn't burned out on Active Rain...it was real estate.

Real Estate Agent with California Lifestyle Realty DRE# 1780607

Last year was my worst ever in real estate.  I went months and months without a buyer, without a sale.  I started looking for other things to do.  I wrote a cookbook,  I created artwork, aprons, and pillows and sold them in a local artist co-op, I threw parties and BBQ's and played some golf.  I even applied for some "real jobs"... I was tired of working, and showing homes, and blogging, and prospecting to no avail.

I WANTED TO GET PAID.

Then this spring a friend referred some new clients to me... and then another buyer came, and a past buyer, and 2 new listings, and all of a sudden I started liking real estate again.  It has continued on and I now have 4 homes in escrow-- and this is supposed to be our slow season.

I realize that I love real estate.. and it has it's highs and lows.  I hate the lows, but if you keep on plugging... it will come back.  This is for all of you are having a tough time now.  Hang in there, it will turn around!  Kathy

Kathy Schowe - You are in a tough market down there. I remember last year when a client of mine was looking for something on the low side in Palm Springs, and you were the only agent in the valley who even got back to me with some advice! So I think you probably were not the only one there who had a hard time. Glad to see you are back!

I hope that your cookbook and all items you created were someway tagged with a signature line that said...REALTOR.  Congrats on getting back in.  I think if you still want to create items that make you happy you can weave that into your real estate business.  It's a very creative way to get your name out there.

It is easy to fall into "hating" real estate when we are in a dry spell and the revenue is not flowing.  We all want and need to get paid.  So glad your business is flowing once again.

Hi Kathy... this profession can burn you out, for sure. It's really important to learn how to control one's work hours, accessibility, stress, etc. The concept of being available 24/7 that's come about in recent years hasn't helped. And the ups and downs are just a part of being in sales. Some we can control and others not so much.

I remember a few years agos I was working with 5 executives for a new plant coming to town. I was told I would be the go-to agent for all their new hires and middle management too. I spent the first 90 days showing, giving town and school tours and was poised to sell the first one a home when the call came in. The CEO pulled the plug and said they were not coming to town. All that time and business out the window. It took me a couple of months to get back on track and it was so discouraging. Now it is just a memory.

We work in such a strange business... hours of unpaid work, and then finally things fall into place.  Helps to have a safety net-- but then it wouldnt' be so exciting! :-)  Kathy
