Cell Phone Security - Virus or Phishing is Not Only PC Related

By

I recently heard about a friend who clicked a link in a text message and infected his phone. The device was hijacked and he had to go to the Verizon store and in the end had to have it wiped clean and a fresh install. Sure you can have everything on you phone backed up to a cloud and get important data or contacts back but why go through the trouble? I see people taking their smart phones for granted. You used these tools more and more these days so I suggest you stay protected.

Your IPhone or Galaxy device is like a computer and you may even use it more than your computer. I just set up full protection on my phone and suggest you do the same. Most likely you can get this free from your provider. I got a whole anti-virus and threat protection from Verizon included with the monthly bill. You just have to turn it on. I set mine up to scan automatically at night while I am asleep. Had I accidentally clicked an infected link on a text message I would have been protected.

Here are a couple of screen shots of my phone

Noah good idea.  Most of us do take the security on our cell phones for granted .

Great words of warning, Noah. We can get lax and forget our phones need safety precautions too.

Good tip Noah I am not sure that my iphone has it but I will check. I rarely click on links through texts and only from trusted sources but you never know.

Great advice, Noah.  Though one must still be careful of what links we follow as these security programs are not foolproof.

Noah Seidenberg Just imagine how much better life would be if these scammers applied themselves to legitimate endeavors to improve the human condition.

Good advice. I  panic if I leave my phone home while I'm going to the grocery store. Imagine the horror of having a virus!

I don't really click on any links unless I truly know the person that sent them and I know they are legit.  These scammers can be very tricky though.

So much threat out there today...you never know if it's actually the real person sending the information. I'll have to look into getting the protection on my phone.

Good reminder and idea, Noah Seidenberg ... with all the online communications and internet we do on our phones these days, you can't be too safe or take security for granted ...

Hi Noah - Good information. The fear of that is why I haven't enabled my iPhone for purchases yet.

Hi Noah --- it's kinda scary about the vulnerability of many of our devices --- bookmarked your post to review when I have more time.
