Although I have written about a lot of different areas inside the gates of Big Canoe, I forgot to mention my very favorite neighborhood: The Waterford neighborhood. Waterford is closest to Big Canoe's North Gate, and also quite close to McDaniel's Meadows so if you enjoy hiking, this is a perfect place to live because it also has hiking trails within the neighborhood itself.
A Peaceful Place
From the moment you turn into Waterford onto Waterford Way, it feels as though you are entering a peaceful place of natural beauty. Although all of Big Canoe can be described that way, this neighborhood has a just a bit more magic to it.
I enjoy this neighborhood so much that I sometimes just drive through it and take photos so I am including photos of Waterford in different seasons. I hope you enjoy them.
Beautiful Sights to See
Just around the first corner, a gorgeous arched bridge comes into view. This is the Hammondtree Bridge. It's rounded arch makes for beautiful photographs during all four seasons. As you drive down the road a little bit, you notice that there are no houses around, and just woods on either side of you. Although there are home sites here available for purchase, this part of the Waterford neighborhood has not yet been very developed. If you are driving here at dusk, more often than not you will find a deer or two contently munching on the leaves of a nearby tree. This is who was having a snack tonight at 7:00 pm.
Toad's Pond and Blackwell Spring
As you continue to drive, a few houses will come into view and that's how you know you are nearing Toad's Pond. Toad's Pond is small pond surrounded by flowers, plants, mountain laurel, and a forest. There are a few homes that have been built around Toad's Pond, and a walking trail that goes all around it. It is not a paved path, but a real dirt trail for those who truly want to enjoy nature during a more rugged hike. There is also a small dock from which people enjoy fishing. Within Waterford there is also a small lake called Blackwell Spring Lake. Those who enjoy a longer hike might want to hike around this lake, which is not as big as the main three lakes of Big Canoe, but is pretty just the same.
There are lots available to build on in the Waterford, but only five lots can be built on each year. This means parts of this neighborhood will be beautifully wooded for many years to come.
Come Take a Look
If you, or anyone you know is looking for a home in a peaceful neighborhood in the mountains of North Georgia that is close to nature, and quiet and filled with wildlife and beauty, then the Waterford neighborhood of Big Canoe might just be the perfect place for them. Stop by for a visit and you won't be disappointed.
