Not A Quickie | Need To Be Social And We'll Love You In The Morning

Managing Real Estate Broker with RE/MAX Executive Realty 104763

After reading a featured post titled “The Loneliness of Your Second Post-The Newbie’s Trough of Sorrow,” and I thought I’d share my thoughts on this topic. As the author of that post stated, the welcoming committee is a happy crowd and the love is spread.  The question is “will you still love me in the morning?”

The answer is easy enough to understand.  Of course, I can only relay the answer as I see it.  Those who welcome first time bloggers do it lovingly, but life must continue to move onward and upward the next day. This includes the tasks for the newbies.

Every newbie should be exercising his/her efforts to become known and remembered by existing members.  The task is an easy one, and it’s the essence of working on a social media site.  Be Social. Learn to participate. Make an effort to introduce yourself, and share your personality with everyone.

You’ll become known and the judgments will begin.  Some will love you; some will dislike you; others will not judge; and some will ignore you completely. Some of the common tasks that one should be doing every day are commenting; posting additional blog posts; using the Q&A section by asking questions and leaving comments; and participating in contests.

Following others who capture your attention with their thoughts, or who have something in common with you, would be to your advantage.  The more you interact with others, the deeper into the system you’ll find yourself.  Habits will form, and you will be addicted.

Feeling abandoned is a state of mind that is not typical on a Social Media Site.  Be social, and you’ll clearly understand why ActiveRain has the reputation that you’re reading about in so many posts here every day.

My final thought for today ….. Be Social and you’ll never be lonely!!

Good Morning Barbara Todaro .

Social media reminds me of high school popularity challenges. We all wanted to be loved, remembered and appreciated.  Those were awful times...long ago forgotten period in my life.  (Yeah...right!)

What is easy is that in order to be remembered by others in the morning,  one just needs to blog and comment. But one needs to do it consistently. The secret is that the more I blog and comment...the easier it gets.

Great advice, I would add that newbies should also have the discipline to get in the rain constantly two or three times per week, and interact with other fellow rainers.

An excellent lesson on blogging with a little humor .. I also learned something as I too experience the lonely second blog. I think the welcoming committee as you state it is pretty awesome .. definitely encourages the writer to return.

Absolutely, Social is the Key word!  The more you interact with others and their posts, then the more you'll get in return.  It's a large Community and you can become lost if you're not interacting with others, so you can be found and stand out from the Masses.  Great response, Barbara!

Barbara, a good lesson for life in general!

Recluses have few friends and not many folks look to associate with those that don't.

I'm not so sure I see your views. I think there are some people who are very egocentric & wonder why people aren't praising my words of wonder!

Just like the guy who asked in Q&A why won't anyone comment on my market reports that I spent 3 hours producing?  It's boring!  Hopefully you've go the right SEO so you can get some business from it.

BTW Bob Stewart said my market reports were boring.

Maybe what newbies feel is 'epic content' is just not.

Hi, Barbara. I liked your title and the post. However, I've got to be honest I've got mixed feelings about ActiveRain its not that clear to me why some posts get news noted and other just don't get zero following or actively.

jonathan Denwood the reason is most likely because the blogger does not conduct his/her presence here as a "social networker"... this is a social media site and one MUST be comment on my post and I'll comment on yours!!  that's blogging etiquette....if I like what you have to say, I'll follow you to the end of the earth...if not, I'm on the fence!!!  this doesn't happen in one day.... it takes time...just like making friends takes time.... these are virtual may never meet them...but you'll have a close connection and become virtual friends.... I have many and cherish those friendships....again, it's social.... trust and friendships need to be earned....they need to be complemented with sharing.... sharing is caring... trite, but true!!!!!  I could write forever, but I think you have the picture, Jonathan.... glad you made the comment....and I make an honest effort to respond to every comment....unless I'm buried....

Barbara thanks for the kind words and encouragement! I wonder if you
could do me a small favor, I do a weekly podcast about technology that can
help real estate agents and I wonder if you have a space moment you could give the last
two episodes listen and give me some feedback on what we were discussing and if you personally found it interesting?

I definitely can see the importance of being present in the digital world; however, I think we should start changing our perspective on social media. We should stop looking at it as a sense of "work" or "part of the job," but rather, talking with our friends! Having intelligent, funny, content-filled conversations never sounds like work to me! I enjoy learning from everyone here on ActiveRain, and love the sharing of opinions. Thanks for your post, Barbara!

Great insight, Barbara.  And, the newbie should be aware, ultimately, it is potential prospects they are writing for... not us.   In the meantime, we're a sharing caring bunch if we feel engaged.  Thanks for the post.
