What does it take to be social? I think we’ve pretty well hashed out the fact that ActiveRain is a social media site, and to be successful here, one needs to be social. Being social is a give and take task. It’s a “sharing is caring” mission.
How many are truly willing to share? Most travel a one way street. They don’t want to share the road with someone who is traveling in a different direction. They don’t want to share any space for fear of being at a disadvantage.
If you take a scan of those who are in the top 100 bloggers on this site, most are very social; network well; share what they know; and comment on the posts of others. They participate as one is expected to do on a social media network.
Give the love, and you’ll get some in return. Provide good content and members will respond in kind. Post nothing but listings, and it’s not likely that they’ll flock to your blog. Use the site to sell your product to other members, and you’re probably doomed unless someone has tested your “goods” and shout out about it.
Real estate agents are not easy to close when it comes to selling programs, websites or anything that costs money. Everyone needs someone to feed them business. Every business needs referrals, and that comes with happy past clients.
There’s a lot of frustration here from new members who jump in the mix and expect to make a score. It’s not likely to happen, and unless you’ve proven yourself here, and/or networked with others here, you’re likely to feel like you have a contagious disease!! There’s distance.
Use the site as it was meant to be used. If you’re selling something, pay your dues. Become known and respected for who you are; what you do; and how well you do it. This is not a site to make a quick buck. Nothing social is done quickly. It’s earned, and it takes time to develop that relationship. It does not happen overnight.
Just saying….
