Summer Weather in San Jose, CA

The weather in San Jose, CA during the summer months tends to get HOT.  It’s not uncommon to experience triple digit temperatures for short periods of time during the summer months.  Being a native to California and having lived in San Jose most of my life, the weather in California seems to change every year.  Like that famous Forrest Gump box of chocolates – we never know what we are going to get each year.

The one thing we have not been getting, or getting enough of, is WATER. California has been a drought state for many years. Pictures are worth at least 1,000 words.  Before and after photos of California reservoirs.

How long does our summer last?  There is not a date on the calendar. It ends when it ends and then we slip into cooler fall temps.  It's sad to see small lakes completely dried up and so many reservoirs severely low. The recent El Nino rain helped yet the drought continues to be an issue.

Housing Options in San Jose, CA

San Jose is the largest city in Santa Clara County. We have a wide variety of housing options available including condos, townhouses and luxury homes in various styles. There's a lot of new construction condos in San Jose as well. With so little land, most new condos are three stories.

The real estate market is as HOT as the summer weather. San Jose home values continue to increase. Most homes sell quickly and for more than asking price.

San Jose Home in Almaden Valley

Prices in the condo market range from $299,000 for a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 648 sq.ft. condo to $1,500,000 for a 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom, 1,513 sq. ft. luxury condo.

Prices for single family homes range from $450,000 for a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 1,100 sq. ft. home to $5,950,000 for a 5 bedroom, 5 full bathrooms, 2 half bathrooms, 8,451 sq. ft. on an acre lot in a gated country club community.

Summer Activities in San Jose, CA

There are endless things to do during the summer. The local YMCA's offer summer camp programs for kids.  A few San Jose attractions and things to do are:

  • Paramount's Great America
  • Raging Waters
  • Winchester Mystery House
  • Attend a concert or a sporting event
  • Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum
  • San Jose Tech Museum of Innovation
  • San Jose Museum of Art
  • Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose

roller coaster ride

Of course we have shopping malls and movie theaters too.  Those are all air conditioned. For the folks that do not have air conditioned homes, these are great places to go to stay cool during the real HOT summer days.

San Jose has lots of city parks pet friendly trails for walking or riding a bike.

We're never quite sure when Summer will begin in Chicagoland .. and how long it will last, Kathleen Daniels.  This year has been hot .. setting records hot.  And humid.  Luckily tho, at least so far, we've seen little of the violent storms and tornadoes the area suffered last year.  I'll take that trade off anytime ...

The Chicagoland housing has finally heated up a bit too.  We lagged behind much of the country in finally healing from the housing mess.  Hopefully your drought comes to an end soon ... slowly ... but surely ...

Have a relaxed water rationing. In 2015 watering only 15 m once a week took a toll on much of landscape, creating dead trees.

This year more relaxed. People do not wash their cars anymore which is fine.

Artificial turf is popular and painters tell me they get hired to spray paint lawn green over brown ground.

Sounds liek we have similar summers.  Not sure how we're doing on rainfall, but it usually isn't bad.

Your market is looking HOT Kathleen! Building up rather than out is smart in an area where open land is in big demand in short supply.

Hi Kathleen Daniels , California has been in the news a lot here in the midwest, with the pictures of those hot fires, dried up lakes etc.  You can have the roller coasters, I will take those shopping malls and and air conditioned movie theatres.

Great promotion for San Jose, CA!  I, too, grew up here but no longer live in San Jose, and I've seen it change quite a bit in the last 51 years.  It is still a great place to live, with plenty of jobs, but a lack of water as you state.

Hi Kathleen,  Great promo for San Jose, CA.  Despite the high housing costs, people still choose to live here for the high tech jobs, great weather and access to so many activities around our area.  It is a great place to live.

Hi Kathleen, the San Jose market is hot indeed!  Also, the weather has been a little on the hot side, with haze from the fires just south of me.  Of course, the heat is nothing like the heat I experienced just two years ago-- that was unbearable.  Nice post!

Kathleen, you did an outstanding job reporting the news and the housing market in your area. It's comprehensive, truthful, inspiring, and sad about the drought conditions too. Yet, it's the people of California like you Kathleen Daniels and Myrl Jeffcoat who persevere and respect the land and the environment that make California great.

Kathleen Daniels - Sounds fantastic from a business standpoint. What a place to be--if you have access to air conditioning and endless bottled water. Yes, the water issue is very worrisome in California.

I do like the heat, both in weather and in the real estate market Kathleen Daniels  . We have entered into a period of drough ourselves now which is rare given all the rain and snow we have had over the last few years.
