First impressions matter when selling a home. And that starts at the curb. At Russ Lyon Sotheby’s, buyers, many times, decide on whether they like a home based on the outward appearance. Sprucing up the outside, though, shouldn’t take too long.
For one, get rid of clutter in the front yard such as a swing set, empty planters, and dead plants. Hide garbage cans and recycling containers.
Next, spruce up your lawn. Nothing gives a more pleasing look to buyers than a neatly landscaped lawn. Get rid of the weeds and keep it watered and fertilized. At Russ Lyon Sotheby’s, I sell a lot of homes with desert as landscape. Even with a desert lawn, it’s still important to pull weeds and keep brush or leaves from trees or bushes picked up. It’s also important to prune overgrown bushes and trees.
You might also want to think about adding some flowers and shrubs. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, they work great in covering up anything unattractive such as a house’s foundation.
It might not sound like much, but keeping your walkway and front porch swept will give a neater appearance as a buyer approaches. Even lighting is important. Think about putting lights around landscaping and walkways. It’ll add to making your house look attractive at night.
Once a buyer gets passed the landscaping, they’re going to be looking at the front door. At Russ Lyon Sotheby’s, I can’t stress enough to make sure your front door is in tip top shape. Wash it or even paint it. If necessary, replace it. Don’t forget to polish/clean the hardware either. You might even want to replace your front door.
Think about washing your house. I’m serious. The last thing a buyer at Russ Lyon Sotheby’s wants to see is dirty walls filled, perhaps, with cobwebs and bugs. The same goes for a garage door. If it’s visible from the front, make sure it’s clean or you might want to even consider repainting it.
