A Taste of Katy Tailgate Event August 2016
The Historic City of Katy is hosting a Taste of Katy Tailgate event on Friday August 13, 2016 in Downtown Old Katy. All Katy residents are invited for an end of summer bash. This event is part of Operation Backpack which is an twelve year old Houston-wide YMCA program. The idea is to collect and distribute backpacks loaded with school supplies to children who are in need of assistance. I think this is a great program and there are many kids even here in Katy let alone in Houston who need this type of help. I have read 42% of Katy ISD students are at risk.
This event will feature food from numerous local restaurants who will be giving out food tasting and serving meals for purchase. There will be live music being performed by local bands. The event will include magicians, street dancing, performances from KISD cheer squads, and several vendor booths. A kids zone will be available with bounce houses and a football toss.
Attendees entrance fee is either school supplies and a backpack or a cash donation which will benefit the previously mentioned YMCA Operation Backpack.
Some of the participating groups include No-label Brewing, The City of Katy and Matt Schomburg State Farm Insurance. A big shout to all of these groups for making this event possible.
I believe this is a great way for people to pay it forward by helping out these kids before school starts. Last year this Tailgate event raised almost $10,000 and collected 250 stuffed backpacks with more than 1,800 attending.
