Lake Norman
Lake Norman The Best of Lake Norman
"Our Oasis in the Center of North Carolina"
Lake Norman is the largest body of fresh water in North Carolina. These numbers help communicate the grand scale of the lake.
32,500 surface acres of water.
34 miles long and 8 miles across at its widest point (twice the size of the Sea of Gallilee).
520 miles of shoreline (more than the coasts of both North and South Carolina).
130 feet deep at its deepest point.
Lake Norman is one of the most rapidly growing and popular areas in North Carolina and is easily accessed via major interstates. Lake Norman is in the northern part of Mecklenburg County, just 18 miles northwest of Charlotte. This "Inland Sea" extends over four counties- Mecklenburg, Iredell, Catawba and Lincoln. This lake offers everything you would expect from a lake this size, from power boating and sailing to swimming and fishing. The state park has camping, hiking, biking trails and more. The golfing boom has taken over the Lake Norman area by storm. You'll find several championship courses around the lake that offer challenging, affordable golfing at brand-new facilities as well as time-honored ones.
