The Five Best Places to Live in Montana

We are definitely biased and think the best place to live in Montana is Bozeman.  However, our entire state is pretty amazing and there are some other cities that are worth mentioning.  Here’s what makes these other places great and how they compare to our Bozeman.

1.  MISSOULA

Bozeman is home to Montana State University while the University of Montana sits in the heart of Missoula.  With both being university towns it’s easy to find similarities between the two.  You get the influence of college students to keep the vibe young and new things coming all the time.  You get tailgating on Saturdays in the fall to support your college team…GO CATS!  Like Bozeman, it is an active community you find people biking to work and playing in the mountains or rivers on weekends.

Missoula is a unique town with a lot of diversity as far as people and cultures and this sets it apart from Bozeman.  Their downtown sits right on the Clark Fork making it a wonderful place for water front festivals.  Caras Park also sits right in the heart of town with a huge playground, carousel and home of many events such as Out to Lunch and Garden City BrewFest.   People love Missoula because it is a very welcoming community and has amazing access to the outdoors!

2.  BILLINGS

This is Montana’s largest city and one that continues to see rapid growth and a strong economy.  Billings is shaped by the Yellowstone River and surrounded on one side by the Rims.  Because of its size there is a ton offered here.  Top notch healthcare, diverse educational opportunities, a large arena, the Metra that brings in major concerts, rodeos and events and a downtown featuring small boutiques and local restaurant.  Billings is also a shopping destination for many smaller communities in Montana and Wyoming.

Like all of Montana, outdoors activities abound in Billings!  There are great mountain biking areas, especially in the Rims and people head to the South Hills for off-road motorcycle riding.  In fact, Billings is well known for their annual Hill Climbs.  There are several golf courses throughout the city plus Dehler Park home of the Billings Mustangs minor league baseball team.

Red Lodge is 45 minutes away and is a recreational “get-away” for Billings locals with skiing, golf and of course the famous Beartooth Highway!
