Utah Picasso Marble

By
Real Estate Agent

I was in the Salt lake Airport and I saw a beautiful rock called Utah Picasso marble. It can only be found in Beaver,  Utah. The Gulf of Mexico used to reach to Southern Utah. The shells from tiny sea animals turn into limestone and were covered by lava. This created the colors in the rock. Some colors are pink, yellow, and brown, which contrast with other colors, such as black, brown, white, and grey.

Does anyone have any experience finding this stone?

Did you find a good picture? The ones at the airport were large. I found some shaped like animals and they did not have the beautiful designs like the ones in the airport. The ones at the airport were abstract and reminded me of Picasso.

I saw some pretty ones on the internet .  There was no place that gave directions where to find it or if it was where the public could find it or not.  I will ask at the rock shops for more informaiton on the sites

I found a site that has pictures of shapes made out of the Picasso Marble. You can see the pretty contrast in colors.  http://www.therockshed.com/septarians2.html

I saw some picasso marble in a rock shop.  The rockhounding books gave no info on finding it and the rock shop said it was all in a mine and therefor you can't get it yourself.

That is too bad. They would be fun to search for and to make something out of them.

THIS MARBLE IS LOCATED IN THE MILFORD, UTAH MOUNTAINS - NOT BEAVER, UTAH.  MILFORD IS LOCATED IN BEAVER COUNTY.  THE MARBLE IS OWNED BY PRIVATE LAND OWNERS, YOU CAN NOT GO ON IT TO ROCK HOUND.  THE ROCK CAN BE PURCHASED THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY IN MANY DIFFERENT TOURIST SPOTS.  IT IS UNIQUE AND EACH PIECE IS DIFFERENT.  THE GENTLEMAN THAT FIRST LOCATED THIS MARBLE WAS MELVIN BRADSHAW.  INCREDIBLE MAN TO SPEAK WITH AND LEARN ABOUT MANY DIFFERENT TROPICS.  HE HAS SINCE PASSED AWAY AND HIS FAMILY OWNES THE PROPERTY.  FOR MORE INFORMATION YOU CAN CONTACT ME AT EDART@IN.COM

Hello Desiree,

I tried to reach you at the email address listed above but it did not go through.

Do you have information that would be useful in obtaining picasso marble?  I am an artist in Salt Lake drawn to the unique beauty of the picasso marble.

Would you know if any other local stone that may be of interest to me?  I am mostly looking for any stone that is softer than granite, quartz, sandstone, etc.

Thank you for your time, I appreciate it.   -Bob
