Do you ever watch an Olympic athlete run across the finish line of an event and ask yourself, “Can I accomplish the same”? If you do, you’ve likely never met an Olympian. I just happen to know a young Olympian contest lady who has been riding horse over twenty years she is 26. Her mom was a friend of my sister.
It’s not just that most Olympians are born with a certain set of physiological features or talents. It’s their commitment to their competitive sports. The most important, the way they receive their proper training and wanting to excel. It is common for athletes to invest years of training and competition in a sport before making an Olympic team. For realtors it takes several years of discipline and dedication to become good at what you do to know your business and win respect. Anyone can learn to ride horse for leisure and sports. Most people find it is difficult to be world's best horse rider or realtor these days. With barely ~90 hours of class room training majority people can get a realtor-salesperson license. Many go to the new agent orientation, attending classes where the coach offers tips how to launch ones' business. How do you sell yourself that you can handle multi-million dollar transactions and get respected by sophisticated home or business owners? Many realtors who do not have the discipline and drop out of the race often too early without trying.
How to train like an Olympian ?
The athletes undertake in their individual sports to reach the Olympic level fame. You reach that plateau by sticking to what you excel. Majority people who tried and just give up.
As the summer 2016 Rio games approaches, this year I am watching Isheau Wong who became better than her European equestrian high jump coach. She started equestrian lessons when she was only 7 at a stable in Taiwan. She became more serious by getting trained in Europe every summer. Like real estate she originally had a team of three girls who set their goals on the path for Olympics. Only she has competed well enough at 2015 contest last year to be invited. Besides horse training, she has several racing horses and a big RV trailer in Spain. She is finding a balance of schooling finishing her masters in Belgium, after completed studies from Wellesley College (MA). She is not just horse sense savvy; a very talented young lady who speaks several foreign languages. Her mom was in a music band at Boston University. Her grandfather broke world record flew a C-54 solo from US west coast to South America across Atlantic into Africa, then Indian ocean carrying military equipment and flew over Himalayan humps while dodging Axis interceptors during WW II. He received commendation medals for foreigners during both Kennedy and Johnson administration.
How to get up if you fall?
In sports I see athletes fall and get up. Many win respects when completing a race even after getting hurt. Are Realtors able to recoup and complete a disastrous transaction? A few will most will not. I have seen agents walking out of the office with tears and you never see them again. Many have this attitude. It is too hard or "Take this job and sh&*v it. I ain't working here no more".
Isheau Wong, 26, is a fighter, never gives up

Like other Olympians Wong has committed years of hard work to her competitive sport which is high jump. She learned about psychology of horses. She said she has developed a good relationship with horses and understand if they trust the rider they will do high jump to please them. Other riders use spurs to kick horses perform what they are afraid. To deliberately injure horses making the relationship difficult. The same applies to real estate. Those understand human psychology and possess people skills can convey to their clients ideas and often it results in a win-win situation. People will hire you if they trust your professionalism.
I used to work with a realtor who had a huge cabinet of award trophies. He told me he sold over 8,000 homes in Northern CA. We are in a very competitive area. Most average Jane type agents sell couple of homes a year. 8,000 transactions is not a trivial matter. His business envelopes have gold letter- "No 1 realtor in the world". He was top sales person in the United States and that franchise had over 100,000 agents. He was #1 in sales. His marketing skills is nothing than replicating what they teach you at new agent orientation. The difference is he was consistent. After having been a realtor for years he had the reputation of selling certain type of homes. Once you are a top agent you find a niche you need to sustain and try to get even better by going that extra mile to be even better. Having the best training does not mean the agent has the persistence, resilience and emphathy to get the medal. There is no substitution to hard work in real estate. There is definitely no free ride.
