Oliver house 605 N Spring Searcy AR

                                                     The Oliver House

How nice it would be to have a house named after you even though it has
changed hands several times during the years.  This one at 605 N Spring
Street in Searcy AR has just changed hands again but is still recognized as
The Oliver House. The court house says this house was built in 1895!  That is pretty old!  I received a call from the new owners and am so pleased
to report that the new owners love history, are researching the history of
this house and are going to live in it!  I told the new owner that the
Searcy Sleuths know everything about everybody that used to be a big part of
Searcy's history.

Mr Oliver, I understand, was Mayor of Searcy from 1936 to 1951 and from this house he could have walked to Searcy on this nice sidewalk that is still in the front
of it in just a minute.  It received an update several years ago by his son,
once again as I understand.  The house occupies quite a bit of property and
the shop is a nice addition to the land.  Hopefully, with the new owner it will thrive again and be a proud part of Searcy's history.

Sleuths, tell us what you know about this house or its original occupants.

Barbara, what a pretty old place!  I'm glad it's going to new owners who appreciate a place with a history.

After meeting the new owners at the Business Expo, they invited me to see the house again. I told them I grew up in that house. No I did not live in it but was there every week twice a week from 3rd - 12th grades taking piano lessons from Mrs. Oliver. Today, I met with the new owners for a tour of the house. It really brought back memories. Hundreds, maybe even a thousand piano students spent time in the house with Mrs. Oliver. If only those walls could talk. Many, many budding musicians as well as some that were better suited for something else in their lives pasted through the front room where she taught her students. It truly was a look back in time for time and one that I am very thankful that I experienced. There is no greater feeling than to be able to sit down and play a tune. You do not have to be a concert performer to enjoy playing music. Thanks to the new owners for allowing me to step back in time.

Burt and Joyce Oliver gave Nancy and me a beautiful cocktail party in honor of our up coming wedding in their house in 1993. I remember it being a beautiful home full of antiques hand designed wallpaper and wonderful stories and memories. I am so happy to hear someone has bought it that will return it to its former beauty. Burt would be so happy!

Patricia, thanks for visiting my blog and commenting!

Elizabeth, what a grand tour you had.  I have learned so much from reading your comment and wish I could play the piano just a little bit.  Or even read a few notes of music.  Because I was a fine arts major they did not think I needed music....or they did not require a course and I surely didn't take many courses that I didn't have to!

David Fritter, didn't I have you in my art class a few years back?

Donna, with 11 years of piano you must be very good!

Roy, tell me more.  So the original Olivers were in the house in 1993?  Or the son who inherited it and redid the house?

Barbara , it is not too late to learn. There is great satisfaction in playing if only for yourself. Can I play like I did after all those years of lessons, no, but I can still play. I just don't practice now like I did then.
