Ask An Ambassador- How Do Localism Posts Help You?
blogging or questions

When getting started with blogging it is puzzling what to write about. Frankly once you have been doing it awhile the ideas flow so abundantly there isn't enough time to write on all topics that come into your head.

For a new blogger a good place to start is with localism posts. These are posts about your area and have lots of appeal with consumers looking for information about a town or what to do on the weekend.

This information is easy to get. The local Chamber of Commerce is a valuable source for what's happening. You may has some areas of interest like music, theater or sports. These are good topics and generate lots of clicks from online viewers.

Other localism posts can be about neighborhoods and what is taking place there. School information is always a popular item to talk about as is what neighborhoods are popular and what are is happening with local growth.

Why is it important to write localism post? These posts have some of the highest clicks rates of any posts. When writing these you are learning more about your town and becoming an expert. The more you do of them, the more you establish yourself as a person in the know. Then when it comes time to find an agent or a lender or other expert, if that someone has been reading your posts they may be more likely to think of you first and give you a call.

It is about establishing your credibility. These are the types of post that make great shares when posted to your personal Facebook page. The topic is safe and people like knowing about these kinds of events. They are easy to tweet and post on Google Plus and Instagram, too.

When I am selecting an agent to send a referral too, one of the criteria is if they have knowledge about their communities. I want the person I am referring to have a good orientation to the area and if the agent is a localism blogger I know they will share the special things about their area.

The more localism posts you write, the more you will get noticed. Make sure the content is in your own words with no copying and pasting (stealing) someone else's article. Take lots of your own photos when you are at events and driving around town. People love seeing photos, too.

Everyone likes to know what is going on in their town and you can provide that information. I also encourage writing on topics centered around your business. Those that are following your blog will also want to learn more about your skills and marketplace. Keep it interesting and change it up.

Holiday events and fun facts about your area create conversation. Your goal is to have your your posts read, shared and put before as many eyes as possible. People like doing business with knowledgeable people and those that have many interests. If you are trying to build a business and establish a presence, deliver a clear message, fill it with good content, make it easy to read and be consistent. This is good advice for the seasoned blogger, too.

Writing localism posts pay off and it is a great place for new bloggers to start and experienced bloggers to add to their mix.

Hi Debbie - You're right - especially for new bloggers, localism posts are the best way to start establishing an on-line presence, and they have a long shelf life.

Terrific advice Debbie, for newbies and for experienced agents/bloggers! We want folks to know that we KNOW our neighborhoods and what better way than via localism?

I love writing localism posts.  Having visited here since '87, then my sister moving her mid 90's, and me moving here in '99, I was able to be a tourist before becoming a realtor in 2002.  Having that eye for fun things to do and see is critical to sharing how wonderful it is to live in Scottsdale!

Hi Debbie. Is localism still a thing? Are we talking about localism the platform, or local interest articles posted anywhere?

Why can't we quote the wording of an event and give reference to the source such as the Chamber of Commerce?  Sometimes others give a much clearer explanation of their event that we could say by turning and twisting words.

Good morning, Debbie. As I just said on Roy Kelley's reblog of this wonderful post: So many people are all worried about how much their blogs contribute to getting new leads... but miss out on the fact that building credibility in one's market as a local expert is also very important and can't always be tied to a specific dollar value.

Localism, localism, localism is the equivalent of location, location, location when looking for a home to buy.  It's all about catering to your local market and becoming the expert.  Great post Debbie.

I used to write localism posts for my previous location. Now I can't find them.   I used to find things on localism.com  But now that site asks me to register.  How does this all work now?
