Rose of Sharon, Kentlands Photowalk, Gaithersburg, Maryland IMG_2809

 

We can see Rose of Sharon blossoms on the large plant growing near our dining room window. These colorful plants grow well in Kentlands, our home community within the City of Gaithersburg, Maryland. One of problems is that these plants are large for small urban home sites.

They are beautiful flowers...we did have a bush...and despite the burlap blanket it did not survive our Wisconsin winter.

Rose of Sharon is one of those plants that seems hardier than most.  I notice several in my neighborhood have stood up well to the California drought.

ROy, we had two rose bushes in front of our home and the deer liked them very much. And they would probably love the Rose of Sharon as well.

For readers who are not familiar with Rose of Sharon, this plant is not like your typical rose bush. These bushes grow to the size of a small tree and have many flowers during the late summer.

We have a cool Labor Day morning in Kentlands. This is the last day of the season for our swimming pools and the annual Dog Swim will take place this afternoon.
