Do Your Devices Control You Or You Control Them?

Information OverloadI saw this fun cartoon about electronic devices in our lives and handling "multiple screens" with the information overload. And like you were a "weenie" if you just looked at one and could not multi task with the information overload. It made me think "Who is at the controls here?"

Sure we have parts of our day seeing a show on TV or looking at news, playing games, checking email, texting, writing a blog, replying on Facebook, but WHEN do we turn it off?

I have found myself putting a smartphone (or two) AWAY in a desk drawer, along with turning all computers and televisions and tablets OFF.

Work on your boundaries, time on devices, complete silence with them, complete DISCONNECTION, as it is freeing and PROVES "who is in charge" with tools, devices, screens, "information." It actually gives your brain a rest from work or play in the electronic realm. Yes we are not living back in 1975 when this was not near so prevalent all around us. But time with a walk, exercise, on the water, conversing over lunch one on one with another, seeing a movie in a theater or going to a concert, all good OTHER things to do. Even gardening, you don't need a cell phone for that with your hands getting dirt all over them.

Life is MORE THAN SCREENS and walking around a neighborhood for Pokemon. Keep balance always in mind with these devices. YOU ARE ULTIMATELY in CONTROL!!

Well I guess I am a weenie then cuz I don't have several devices on at once and next month it will be even less. Now you on the other hand need to heed to own advice.

Right now I am watching two screens; my lap top and watching a movie at the same time. Mostly, I just watch one thing screen if any at all.

Oh sometimes it goes both ways, I'll admit. But I'm trying to do better.

Hi Gary - so great to see you! I think too much time on social media and always being connected can be unhealthy. Every Sunday I diconect for 5 hours. As you point out, it makes me in control and gives me time to regroup.
