The 2016 Summer Olympics have started: Time to reflect about, Life, Politics and Real Estate….
As far as I can recall, I have watched the Olympics and it did not matter whether it was Summer or Winter Olympics. I have had a very strong connection to this event for many reasons. One in particular, thanks to the 1964 Winter Olympics I now have the pleasure of living in Los Angeles, CA via a long and winding road…. then to boot the same winding road took me to the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany.
Every four years I would be glued to the TV, even if I could not be at the actual events and watch Opening Ceremonies and some of the fantastic competitions. This year was different, I did not turn the TV on…
Of course my reasons are many and varied, but that is not what this post is about, not wanting to digress. I will just list a few headlines: Health Experts want Olympics Delayed or Moved due to ZIKA virus; Top Health Experts from the Globe: delay the Olympics; Rio is in the process of displacing 30,000 or more homeless families; Filth spoils 2016 Olympics; Protecting the Animals at the Olympics….
Now with that said I still love the Olympic Spirit: It is not about winning it is about participating!
Let me clarify my point, the Olympic Creed states that “The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.”
I love this humble message from an event that brings the best of the best in each sport together from all over the Globe. It does not matter if it is swimming, running or jumping, the best athletes are competing from all countries against each other.
How did these athletes get here? Of course the short answer is by hard work, perseverance, sacrifice, total focus on their skills and support from their families. Some athletes got to the Olympics with limited resources and only with their idealism and can do attitude.
Ironically the Olympics have inherent or should I say numerous conflicts built into the Games. What I mean is, in addition to the fact, that there can only be one Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winner in each event there is a huge inequity of national support. This inequity is the Nationalism, Commercialism and of course Politics each country adds to the mix and determines how much help and support these fantastic athletes receive. This inequity of course does not let the cream of the crop fail, it is still about individual achievement. At every Olympics numerous Olympic and World Records are broken by the focus and determination of these world class athletes.
This brings me to Real Estate, for me it is an easy comparison I could take out the word “athlete” and substitute the word “REALTOR” and all my points would apply.
The successful or should I say super successful Realtors do the same thing as the Olympic Athletes. They sacrifice many wants and needs to achieve success in their profession and have the support of their families behind them. Some are working in small community others work in big communities, but to achieve their level of success they get there by idealism and a can do attitude.
Idealism in giving the ultimate client experience in the sale and or in the purchase of the home. Perseverance and can do attitude in achieving this noble goal.
So in closing I have no Olympian secret, just hard work, focus and dedication to my clients. I just wrote about this in another post see link ( http://actvra.in/4TNm )
