What is it about Sundays that always beckons me to think about the simplicity of Americana art? Maybe it’s the thought of a day spent kicking back and being reminded to take a breath, look up at the sky and be thankful for your day.
This stunning piece sits atop the largest log home here at Fishhawk Lake, soon to have a new owner who will love what this weather vane presents, a beautifully winged creature holding one of our other sacred symbols here at Fishhawk Lake, a salmon. The weather vane imparts to me an ongoing symbol of America--something universal that we find in many small towns and countryside communities across our great nation.
A “Fish Hawk” is actually an osprey, and we are lucky enough to have them grace our skies through the seasons. It is our Fishhawk Lake community symbol in all its forms.
Here is a brief partial description of its temperament:
The Fish Hawk may be said to be of a mild disposition. Not only do these birds live in perfect harmony together, but they even allow other birds of very different character to approach so near to them as to build their nests of the very materials of which the outer parts of their own are constructed.
Maybe this is something to always embrace in our community, to be like the bird our Lake is named for.
Have yourself a lovely Sunday in America and elsewhere.
