Fifty Shades of Gray: Paint Colors When Selling

Okay, maybe not 50 shades, but it got your attention, right? As NJ home Stager we highly recommend that if you haven’t painted your home’s interior in the last 5-7 years or your colors are taste specific, you really should invest in painting before you list or stage your home. Not only does painting yield a 300% ROI, but it’s the most effective way to update your home. Moreover, clean, neutral walls make your home NJ home Staging, Kristine Ginsberg, NJ Elite Staginglook newer.

However, choosing the right paint color is really confusing, so I’m here to help! As a NJ home stager, I make it my business to know what neutral colors are trending and best suited for mass appeal.

I’ve used all these paint colors with excellent results. They look good in all lighting, day or night.

Here are my Top Benjamin Moore color choices for the main rooms in the house (kitchen, family, living room, den and dining rooms).

Revere Pewter OC-17, Abalone 2108-60, Sterling 1591, Storm AF-799 (a darker, more dramatic gray best suited for large rooms with natural light), Gray Owl OC-52, Stonington Gray HC-170, Coventry Gray HC-169.

We LOVE BM Abalone 2108-60 – it looks great in any room with any color scheme:

NJ home stagingBM Revere Pewter OC-17 is one of the hottest grays right now. It’s in the warm family and goes great with every color. The trim is painted in BM White Dove OC-17.

Bolder grays are best suited for accent walls and dining rooms.  Kendall Charcoal HC-166 works really well in dining rooms:

Recently I painted one wall in my master bathroom a darker shade of Gray.  I have windows running across the top, near ceiling. (just for extra light)  Nice list of colors.  Kristine Ginsberg  I can check out your list for the other three walls.  They definitely don't match well now.

Hi Melissa - I've found that BM Abalone goes well with just about any gray. Maybe that will help? Hope so!

Great advice. I think a lot of younger buyers appreciate gray color schemes. I don't have any evidence to substantiate that claim, but it feels right. But definitely important for real estate professionals to keep these decisions in mind so they can help clients decide when to bring in stagers or re-design.

My GF/KG--takin' it to the gold with gray! (Star, that is....)! Always love what you have to share. I like how specific you were with certain grays in certain rooms. Being a BOLD girl myself, I'd be all over that dining room.
