Swimming pools can be dangerous

Today, while at a funeral for a teenager in my community, I heard some rumors.

Turns out a small child in our community drowned in a swimming pool last night.  I do not know the details but I am sure that my friends who owned the pool are devastated.  The children who saw their friend die will never be innocent again.  What the parents are feeling I cannot imagine.

It is not the first drowning death I have heard of.  But it hits home.  I have hosted pool parties at my parent's home.  Some of the guests were young and while hosting I could not possibly play life guard.  I assumed the parents were minding their own kid.

It only takes a few moments for tragedy to happen.  It cannot be undone.   Please if there are children in a pool make sure at least one adult is in charge of the pool.   Today I am saddened about the call for the funeral that will come later today or tomorrow.  For the second tragedy this week where we will bury a child.
